deleting sites from my startpage???

my newtab pafe is populated with site but how do I remove the ones I dont use/want anymore, so that more relevant sites can add

when I hover and click on the x's in the u7pper right corners it doesnt delete the,

what havwe I got wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong.
It will go away once you refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+L, or close the tabe and open a new one).
It might happen that there will be one tile missing after this, but that would be refreshed after Firefox restart. At this point it's a deficiency of the extension that this is cached on startup and only refrehsed on startup as well.
