I have created a page containing the preface of the 1963
Sesquicentennial edition of the Sgaw Karen Hymn and Tune Book. Since I
still haven't mastered typing in Burmese, and many members' computers
are probably not equipped to display it even if I had, I shall post
the Karen-language preface as a JPEG graphics file.

- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

The website URL I posted for a virtual Myanmar keyboard has a link to
a font.

I'd be curious to see a small snippet of the Burmese font, because I
think my machine can display it. Perhaps something to compare to the
JPEG file.

Thanks, Paul and Ken, I will post a snippet soon if I can, and I will
try out the keyboards (both Ken's and Marc's).

But the problems are in part what Marc @ Tavultesoft described when he
wrote in the Burmese typing thread "You'll also find that Burmese
script (whether for Burmese or Sgaw Karen) has a poor level of support
in general in Windows XP. Applications will display the Burmese
characters, but they will not be shaped correctly. You will need to
update your version of Uniscribe for the complex character shapes
(e.g. vowels) to display correctly. Keyman Desktop 7.1 provides a
utility to do this automatically -- the Keyman Uniscribe Manager.
This functionality is not available in earlier versions of Keyman."

And even when a keyboard is working right at both ends, there is still
the problem of my fluency in Burmese typing, which is at the point of
invisiblity right now. A snippet I may manage, but a page may be a
day's labour. And a whole day to devote I don't have at the moment,
just moments here and there. So for the moment in this group I am
going to rely mostly on graphics files. That does not mean that the
hymnal will be dependent on these, only that for the moment I don't
think I can reliably and time-efficiently move beyond them.

Here's a page for the font linked to:

http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&item_id=Padauk

At the bottom of the page it shows:

"Keyboard

An appropriate keyboard to use with this font can be downloaded from
ThanLwinSoft."
