who sholud use つまらないものですけど

Yesterday we solved the N3 chokai paper again. I remember, in that paper we had a doubt about 'つまらないものですけど'.

We know that it is used while presenting a gift to someone.
I found a site where an interesting explanation about this is given.

つまらないものですけど is generally only used by the grown-ups in particularly formal settings.

Basically the correct expression is ; つまらないものですけど、差し上げます。It is indeed used in formal settings, but I am not quite sure about the usage by adult only.

 

Of course, when I used nobody objected, but they were happy that I am using 警護 correctly. Our students are going to use the language in business world, so they can use it surely.

 

Let us confirm it with a Japanese person.

I remembered the incidence because the answer  ' つまらないものですけど  ' to that question was given as 'wrong' in the answerkey. And we had discussed about it
So it was just out of curiosity that I searched for it and came across that link. There was no other intention behind the search.
