Historic events in New Mormon History on 12/22

1853: formation of phonetic Deseret Alphabet, which LDS leaders try to make the standard written language of Mormon Utah. The formal announcement is on 19 Jan. 1854.

1856: At Seventy’s meeting apostles ask six subordinate members of First Council to resign. Some do temporarily but are reinstated. A week later several apostles offer to resign from Quorum of Twelve.

1960: David O. McKay warns Twelve against growing power of LDS bureaucracy.

1979: The first female LDS missionaries to be murdered are sixty-six-year-old Elizabeth W. King and sixty-five-year-old Jane Ruth Teuchner in North Carolina.
