1857: as Mormon troops leave to confront U.S. regiment, first counselor Heber C. Kimball “promise[s] them that if they would live the religion of Christ not one of them should fall by the hand of an enemy. There are no military deaths in Utah War.

1891: (19-20) The First Presidency and Lorenzo Snow, the Twelve's president, and Apostle Anthon H. Lund testify in court that the Manifesto prohibits new plural marriages anywhere in the world and prohibits cohabitation with wives married before the Manifesto and that the church will excommunicate violators. Although the testimony is published in various editions of the Deseret News, all polygamous general authorities violate this by continuing to cohabit with their plural wives after 1891.

1893: The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve agree to bribe Utah's non-LDS attorney general to prevent the indictment of general authorities for unlawful cohabitation.

1898: the first plural marriage is performed in Salt Lake City by Apostle Matthias F. Cowley by authorization of Counselor George Q. Cannon who allows him to perform plural marriages in the U.S. for high-ranking church officers not required to travel to Mexico.

1962: The Church News announces the purchase of the church's first shortwave radio station, WRUL, in Boston and New York City. The purchase price is $1,771,850. The church sells its shortwave station in 1974 in response to satellite, cable, and videotape technologies.
