Folks-

Most of you know that I have transitioned from the Executive Director role at Rocky Mountain Youth Corps.  It has been an honor to serve the communities of northern New Mexico for the last 20 years, and I trust that the next 20 will see RMYC continue to revitalize communities, preserve and restore the environment, prepare young people for responsible productive lives and build civic spirit through service.   RMYC has developed from a concept into a national model for conservation corps and youth development – I’ll take a moment to recognize ALL the staff and Board Members, our community partners and supporters from over the years.  It was truly a team effort to bring us to where we are today.

The new ED is Ben Thomas, who has been with RMYC for almost ten years.  Ben started as a Corpsmember, worked his way up to Program Director,  and transitioned to Executive Director as of July 1, 2014.  Things continue to move here at RMYC, including crews starting this Fall in the Taos area, in Bandelier, and for the first time, in Albuquerque.  Please give a moment’s thought to helping recruit 18 to 25 year olds for these opportunities; send candidates to our website at http://youthcorps.org/get-involved/ for position descriptions and applications.  Questions on positions can be directed to Victoria Flores, RMYC’s Recruitment and Transition Coordinator at vi...@youthcorps.org or 505.779.6490.

As the succession plan that has been implemented over the last ten months wraps up, I shift into the role of Director Emeritus.  (No one liked the Grand Poobah title.)   I am not going to be involved in the day-to-day operations of the Corps, but will continue to shepherd a couple of projects, including the planning and creation of a trail from Arroyo Seco to the Town of Taos for both community and visitor use.  Look for more on that soon.

Again, thank you for your partnership, your friendship, and your support over the years.   One last time:

For the Corps,

Carl
