Good morning everyone,

            We are coming to you on behalf of Cookie, A535508, spayed female, 3-year-old, black and white, Pit Bull mix who is in desperate need of an immediate rescue pull due to medical.  She is an absolute sweetheart of a girl but is very sick.  We have been treating her, but she is only getting worse in out environment.  She needs out of here, fresh air and more care than we can offer.  The Vet is giving us 48 hrs. to get her out of the shelter and into a rescue.  He has also changed her medication to hopefully help her… fingers crossed.  We’ve added her medical notes below along with her behavior notes and picture.  We do need to let you know that she did come in with a friend… could be a friend or daughter, we don’t know, just that they came in together and were kenneled together, doing excellent with each other until we moved Cookie out for being sick.  Butters (A535509) is not showing signs of illness at this time.  If you can help Cookie, please complete the link below.

Do suspect pregnancy in this dog- poss. fetuses palpated in abdomen. She is very friendly.

 

07/02/24 09:00 Pet appears to have greenish discharge coming from vulva. please check, spay if necessary.

Noted mild vulvar d/c and edematous vulva- RO heat cycle vs. pregnancy complication vs. pyometra. A spay was performed and mildly edematous uterus was found (heat cycle)

Rx: doxycycline- 100mg- 3.5 PO SID x10d

 

08/01/24 08:09 pet is on Doxy but pet seems to be having difficulty breathing and has a heavy cough

Spent some time with dog on walkthrough. At this time did not appear dyspnic. Noted mucoid nasal d/c still present. Dog was BAR and ran over to kennel door to greet. Recommend monitoring for now- should be noticing improvement in the next few days on medication. Recheck if this is seen again or worsening.

08/03/24 07:57 Pet is having difficulty breathing in last 3 mornings, observed by serval ACTs. Pet has to be pilled in order to give her meds. Pet is NOT as happy or active as she originally was. Please check.

Observations:

EENT - bilateral serous nasal discharge.

-PE otherwise apparently normal

Assessment:

Breathing episodes reported by staff - r/o nasal discharge, reverse sneeze, allergy. other

Plan:

RX Diphenhydramine 25mg

Give 2 PO BID X 4 days

RX Cough tabs 

Give 1 t PO BID x 7 days

Proviable

Give 1 c PO SID x 14 days

Recheck when finished with doxycycline - patient may need a longer course of antibiotics.

 

08/07/24 09:25 still having difficulty breathing, coughing and runny nose.  Not getting better

Vet changed antibiotics to Clavamox and gave 48 hrs. to get into a rescue or mercy may be considered to prevent suffering.

 

 

Behavioral notes:

A535508 and A535509 came in together and are being kennel together without issues.

06/20/24 09:04ACT took the dog out with a leash, and she was very sweet and walks on a leash well. While in the ACO intake room, she did very well getting her vax and pic done. She was letting the ACT pet and scratch her -

07/17/24 12:49 Very sweet girl. Is nervous at first but warms up to people kind of quickly. She loves to be pet and cuddled. Loves her blankets and cuddling up with kennel mate

07/18/24 11:20 Took to play yard to update picture.  She was super easy to leash and walk by the other dogs to who she paid no attention to.  She is very sweet, loves attention, wants her bum scratched, hasn't shown much interest in toys but loves to cuddle.  Knows "sit".

07/21/24 12:49 Took her out to conference room to play and socialize. She did very good and was very sweet. She knew how to sit and wait for her treats.
