So how was it? Or have you not done it yet?
I just finished my quiet time with God.
I know many of us may have some presupposing understandings of the
book of Revelation
I suggest you throw all that out of your head and humbly come before
God for understanding.
If you read the intro of the Living Life, before the first day of QT,
it may help.

If you have any questions, post it up and we can discuss, or I will do
my best to answer it.
But first and foremost, pray and meditate...

Personally,

For Revelation 8:1-5, if you connect that with the burnt offering in
the Old Testament (OT) (Noah's offering after the flood, Abraham's
sacrificial act with his son Isaac, Leviticus 1:1-17, and many other
places), you may understand a little more about what it means when
"the prayers of the all the saints" are lifted up before God as an
aroma. You may also connect it with the New Testament (NT), where
ultimately it is Jesus who is the "sacrificial lamb". Think about why
or how the prayers of the saints(you) are lifted before God, and what
this means to you as a God's child.

For Revelation 8:6-13, meditate on who our God is (ie. as Creator, as
Judge, as Healer). Also, on the fact that these actions come after the
prayers were lifted before Him. Not that we should pray for judgment,
but in God's perspective the pain and hardship of the saints are
heard. God does not just sit and let evil prevail. Rather He is...

Hope you have been blessed as I am...

proverbs 2:12-16

12. wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse,
13. who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways,
14. who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil
15. whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways
16 it will save you also from the adultress from the wayward wife with her seductive words

*earlier in verses 1-2
Wisdom is referred to as His commands,
and to search for it as you would treasure

This is why qt is important, to remind us how we need Him, and how it helps steer us from evil

quick question; is there any particular reason that His judgement
started after the "4th" angel sounded his trumpet? i mean why 4th out
of 7 seal on the scroll.

for me, verse 4 really struck me.

"the smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints,
went up before God from the angel's hand.(8:4)"

first, is it ok to consider us as saints.? are we even deserved to be
called "saints".?

sometimes i have a doubt if He is really listening my prayers and
anxious what if my prayer is just meaningless to Him. however,
according to this verse, i was confirmed again my prayers did(will) go
up before Him from the angel's hand through our everyday worship.
thus, as trusting Him listening our prayers, i want to be more close
to God, asking God, holding onto God. .. ---

Eunwoo, I do not understand your question. The seventh seal was opened in verse 1, and then the angels were given seven trumpets. Each trumpet blown is judgment described in each verse.
What do you mean?

sorry i was confused.. so;

1st seal: white horse(representing..?)
2nd seal: red horse(representing..?)
3rd seal: black horse
4th seal: pale horse and then His judgement started by sword, famine and plague. (why from 4th.?)
5th seal: their fellow servants, brothers also were to be killed; which is His judgement, too.
6th seal: great earthquake, the whole moon turned blood red; so another His judgement.
7th seal -> 1st trumpet ~ 4th trumpet (8:6-13) : seems His judgement targeting the general living creatures with natural disasters
5th trumpet ~  seems His judgement targeting unbelievers(who didn't have seal of God on their foreheads)

i know i have to read/understand Book of Revelation, in particular, as it is., but i just wanted to go deeper...
thank you, pDanny!!

Hi Eunwoo, I will answer these questions when I get back from New Jersey...
Really glad you are getting into it deep. I hope the others will also follow in your footsteps, deacon Eunwoo Kim.
I would like to mention, though, that the 5th trumpet doesn't come up intil the next day, 2nd of Dec. so go ahead and meditate on that, and I will get back to you on the 7seals and 7 trumpet interpretation. However, I will tell you, it isn't the easiest to understand, yet it is possible. Remember that this is John's "vision" he is seeing...

For the Dec. 2nd QT,

The focus of this message, at least in the perspective of believers, is verse 4. God's people are spared. We know that in Rev. 13:16-17, (He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,
so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name) all people on earth were to have a mark that signifies obedience to Satan. But here in Rev. 9, we notice that God's people also have a mark, a seal of God on their forehead, which was placed in Rev. chapter 7.

Now with this in mind, before God had brought His judgment onto earth, imagine how much persecution and trouble Christians would be in when we refuse to compromise and give in to Satan's powers, especially when  a physical mark is placed on all people. To "cash" this out in today's term, we may not have a physical mark but this mark is clearly present in our lives, is it not? Only God knows, and at the end times, we will all know.
And so, for believers, God's wrath upon the physical earth, as we read in today's QT passage, is spared, just as those before the Exodus out of Egypt. These destroying locusts, and their leader Apollyon are evil creatures. However, we see that even evil are under the reign of God. Not that God instructs evil to destroy, (for they are by evil nature to do so), but He allows it to happen with one condition: not to harm those with the seal of God on their foreheads.

All this "end of days" talk may seem either far far away for some, or scary and frightening for others. But the truth of the matter is that it is coming. I am convicted, once again, that it is now and today that I should obey God, no compromising of my faith in Christ, no procrastinating, but live my life as God instructs and desires. I TRULY DESIRE TO DO HIS WILL! PLEASE HELP ME BE STRONGER AND BOLD! I know You will protect and preserve me and my brothers and sisters. Let me stand on the ROCK, Jesus, and witness His love. Because we all know YOU have won already...

Guys, I hope you have a wonderful day today. Please pray for Paul, and his family. I will be going at noon, and will return today. Please pray for my trip, and I hope to see you all on Friday.

Dec. 3 2010 QT,

From Rev. 9:13-21 I realize how corrupted and sinful this world has become. It's no surprise, but it's always a brief shock. Some might say that Satan and his sinful army are prevailing in their plans. Well, in a way, it is true. Although God does not desire evil, I find that He is using it for the end times, when Christ will return. It's that "twist" factor I remembering preaching about a few weeks back. Everything seems normal and as "just the way it is", or just the way it's supposed to be, in our hearts and minds, since we are so deeply in the world, and de-sensitized by the exposure of sin. But through the Word, I find an often reminder of how God's intention is for a New Heaven and New Earth (Rev. 21). In many ways, as the book of Revelation is a letter written by John on his vision and encouragement to the 7 churches in chapters 2 and 3, I find book of Rev as a glimpse, a reminder for me, a smack in the head to tell me that God is the Victor.

I find in verse 20 of today's passage how society is today. We have gone so far astray that things that were taboo and immoral are now accepted and encouraged, and when talked about in a wrong way it's concerned PI (politically incorrect). Things are not the way they are supposed to be...I feel this ever so strongly when I read the Word of God. Well, I'm not the way I'm supposed to be...I need Jesus. We all do. But even when God sent His only Son, Jesus, people turn away and continue to idol worship, including myself. And this is a truly aching and terrible pain in my heart.

God, come now! I not only want to be refined in the fire, continually molded and remolded. I want to be made perfect, and set in place where You are.

Yesterday when I was in New Jersey to meet Paul and his family, I gave him the message from Rev. 21:1-7. It was an emotional moment. Although losing someone special and close is sad and full of sorrow and pain, it is also a time of celebration. Those who pass from this earth are with Him now! Hallelujah! Even when we know that as believers, for believers, reality is that we are sad and we miss them. But Rev. 21 tells us that we will be together with our loved ones when  that Day comes. We will be with Jesus! I guess that's how life is...we have hope and faith, and love and joy, because we know where we will be at the end, but we also have pain and sadness, because the hurt and scars are real. God knows that. And so we need to be strong, we need to have community, we need to have Holy Spirit-filled lives.

I called my parents yesterday, and I cried with them. I told them where I was and what I did in New Jersey. And my mom said to me, Danny when I pass, throw a celebration. Don't cry, because I'm going home. I'll bet I would be the one crying, crying for you to be with the Father...and me.

I hope and pray that I may be able to throw away and get rid of all my idols I have in my life. To be able to understand my Father's heart. To know that we are here, ultimately as a journey, as sojourners for Christ.

Sat Dec 4 QT

I hope that everyone who has received the QT book is taking time out to meditate and pray. Even if you haven't received one, you should be doing that. I find that this QT book makes me, or forces me, to do some serious QT daily. If you are having trouble with this, and have not received a book, please come see me, I have a few books left. I hope everyone can do QT and maybe share their thoughts with all of us through our google group...

For today's QT, as I read the first verse of Rev. 10, I am reminded of how majestic our God is. Some say that this mighty angel is Gabriel, others say that it is Christ Himself. Whoever this "mighty angel" is we are blown away by His presence. If we take a look at the first description of this mighty angel, we read that he had come down from heaven, that he is a heavenly being, and dwells there. His clothing of a cloud reminds us of Rev. 1:7 where Jesus "is coming with the clouds (cf. Daniel 7:13, Matthew 24:30, and other places as well). We are also reminded of how God, in Exodus, comes in a cloud as a sign of His glory. Therefore, this cloud may represent God's presence and His glory...The mighty angel also appears with a "rainbow above his head." If we look at Rev. 4:3 (cf. Ezekiel 1:28) God has a rainbow around His throne, which may "cash out" as His mercy. The rainbow is also most known as a promise, a covenant, God had made with Noah...This rainbow appears as a crown over this mighty angel. So, putting this together, this angel is representing God's glory and mercy (presence and promise). We are also told that his "face was like the sun." In Rev. 1:16, we read that Jesus' face was "like the sun shining in all its brilliance". The final description of this angel is his legs, as fiery pillars. We can find this in Rev. 1:15, where Christ's feet were like "bronze glowing in a furnace." We also remember when God was with the people of Israel in the desert, God sent a "pillar of fire" in the night, as well as a "cloud" in the day to protect and guide His people. This, then, signifies God's deliverance and protection of the believers. This mighty angel is the overall representation and exaltation of Christ our God.

In verse 2, we find this angel standing on both the land and the sea, one foot on each. When I read this, I am reminded of how God is not just any god (not that any other gods exist), but the one and only God who created this universe, and has sovereign power over all of the universe.

Verse 6 is where it hit me. The words, "There will be no more delays"...Our God has set down His feet, stood up, and proclaimed that He will no longer stand to watch His creation, His people be tortured and persecuted because of evil. He is fed up with all that has, and is going on. The final time has arrived for His people to be glorified with Him in the New Heaven and New Earth. I find not only hope but encouragement as I read how God is compassionate, merciful, and always keeps His promise. He is the God who delivers and protects His children. Hallelujah for our King.

When John was told to take the scroll and eat it, this was God's call to His servant(s) to stand up with Him and take action. He warns that the Word of God will be sweet as honey (as it is for all of us who are believers) but it will be bitter in our stomachs because there will be hardship and pain. When we go out into the world to proclaim God's Word, many will reject us, many will spit in our faces and reject God. We will feel bitterness in our stomachs. But that's only temporary. Our work may at present seem meaningless, and sometimes discouraging, but we have God's promise, and His fulfilled promise in Christ Jesus that there will come a day, very soon, when we will be glorified in God.

I am convicted this morning, this day to live my life to the fullest, to serve the Lord, to go to the limits and give my life in His service. His Word is sweet as honey. But I know that my work of sewing and labor may not yield as I want it to. But, nevertheless, it is my duty and privilege to serve the One and True God. Amen.

Hello, everyone; I hope you are well.

Actually, Rev. 10:6 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. Like Pastor Danny mentioned, it speaks of a time where without further ado, all is made clear. I personally can't wait until everything is revealed under God's control / command and we no longer have to rely on our sometimes faulty interpretations and limited understanding.

Sometimes for me, the Word's sweetness really does cause a bitterness in my stomach -- not because others refuse the Word I share but because I feel I am inadequately following God's will. Every time I go into QT I'm filled with wonder, praise, and love for God. At the same time, I feel how lacking I am... Without these email reminders from New Life I'd totally forget to read the Bible. On many a Sunday morning, I wished that I could sleep rather than get up for church. Hopefully God will see fit to make me a little bit more holy so the bitterness will go away.

Thank you all again for sharing your insights and emotions.

Hello everybody,

The QT passage for this Tuesday in Rev. 12:7-17 is an amazing event found in heaven and on earth. The explanation provided by the writer of Living Life is well stated. What I had found to be the subject of this passage, in particular the passage of Rev. 12:13-17 is "the reason for persecution and suffering of the saints". This is a concern because we know that Jesus had won, but why do we (believers) still suffer? A short answer for this is that Satan attacks those who are identified with Christ. But ultimately God's nourishment will protect believers (believers = those who keep the commandments and are a testimony to Christ) to the end. Another question is, what kind of protection is God providing? Well, first and foremost, we suffer for Christ because/by keeping the commandments and are a witness of Jesus, since we have faith that God will deliver. And so the protection is not from physical persecution, but the perseverance and preservation of the saints.

This passage is John’s depiction of the war on earth between Satan and God’s people. When the dragon made a move, the woman counteracted. The counteraction of the woman was always provided by divine intervention. God was there to protect and nourish the woman through all of her tribulation. (woman = the church) The protection the woman receives from God is a shield from deception, lies, false-teachings, and ultimately apostasy. That is why we find in v. 17, that those who are considered to be the “rest of the seed”, the saints, are those who “keep the commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.” Though physical death is still possible for God’s people, the resurrection and life eternal in Christ is the true end for believers. Satan’s deception, lies and false-teachings may give us the illusion of safety in our comfort zones. But John reminds us that “the rest of her seed” are those who “keep the commandments and are a witness of Jesus. This is why we believers (must) go through persecution and suffering. Satan will attack.

Jesus himself tells all those who belong in him “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own, but because you are not of the world, and I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you, if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for the sake of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me (John 15:18-21).

I pray that our brothers and sisters, and all of the body of Christ will endure and persevere because we know that He has already won. We just need to hold fast and keep with God's will. Every single day it's a battle. So, I pray that I will do my very best, giving glory to God in everything, and just trust His direction and providence. Amen.

QT Wednesday Dec 8 2010

After praying and reading Rev. 13:1-10 I am reminded of how powerful this "Ancient Serpent" is. However, we notice that his (the dragon) attack on the woman had failed. The dragon is now turning towards the rest of her offspring on earth (yesterday's QT). Satan's tactic is cunning. He is attacking the remaining saints so that it may bring Christ and His bride, the church, to come out of the protection of God and attempting to lure them into the hands of Satan. And so, the dragon brings up a beast, an imitated act of God, and the people of earth worship it. The imagery here is one that strikes fear in our hearts. It brings a frightening vision of how the world is to come. However, I believe that this is happening right now. Not only do we see the war and hatred in our world today, we also find the cunning and deceiving ways of Satan through society and culture. Seeing people die from war and hatred may be a visible sign of how Satan works, but a more fearful and scary attack is happening where we might not notice. Slowly our society is conforming to Satan's ways. It may not seem so at first glance, but if we base our  understanding of life and history on the Word of God, our eyes will open and see that the world has changed and we are being de-sensitized by such a slow and gradual change. This is what John sees in his vision of the beast. A spiritual battle may go unnoticed by us humans, but John clearly sees how great the attack of the beast is to the people of the world. And so we read in verse 9, "He who has an ear, let him hear". You might remember a few months ago I preached on Jesus' statement "He who has an ear, let him hear" in Matthew 13. It isn't just a listening ear that is being called out. Our hearing must result in action. If we truly hear the words of John in our passage, there is no other way but to respond. In verse 10, "this calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints." We, who are God's children, waiting for Christ's return, must not rationalize what the world, society, tries to bring us to believe. We NEED to base our lives on the Word of God. If not, we will also fall into the trap that Satan has in store for us.
Times have changed, and we all acknowledge that. But God does not. His plan is still in effect, and we who are saints of the Most High must live our lives as the people of the Kingdom.
It is scary and frightening, but guess what? There's no way out of this. We are in the midst of it right now. What to do? We need to continue to trust in the Lord, and live our lives as He had commanded us. I know I am not able, and so I go to the One who is. Thanks be to God who opens His door for someone like me, like us. Amen.

I actually do my own qt, but I like reading about the whole rev. book, well at least your thoughts anyway.
I definitely see the world conforming to evil, and because I'm such a big old-testament reader, (not jewish) i notice a lot of similarities
in today's world and the sinful world back then.
Not only are there growing trends in false religions such as the popular 'oprah-ism' which teaches that the bible is something to be learned from but it is a book none-the-less and the perspective we should take is that WE ARE GOD, is what it preaches..

The world, even ourselves as christians, are accepting more and more of satan's evils and i can see the relevance of the book of Rev.
to today's world

It's really a scary point of consideration and I do agree with Samuel that we're starting to look more and more like a nation led by Satan.

I think it is all the more important that we try to defend the Bible as God's Word and our beliefs as true. The biggest danger is really giving into social pressure and accepting different religions as correct, I think.

The scariest thing in Korea is that everyone is so clear and open with their religion. Catholics definitely give me some weird looks, and people that go to Buddhist temples kind of keep to themselves. The other American teacher here is an atheist and has many negative views of the Church. Please pray that I can get the courage to not only defend my own faith but also to be able to touch these people spiritually.

QT for Dec. 9

The comments after the passage in the QT book is very good in explaining what Rev 13:11-18 mean. As I was reading this passage I thought of the same issues as the writer of the QT. To reiterate what the writer had said, Satan is deceiving us by forming his own "trinity" by bringing up the second beast. This second beast is one that will/may sway even believers. The work it does is quite similar to what the Holy Spirit does. The only difference is the source and the outcome of its work. However, the difference is very difficult for humans to discern. We need to remember that the way of Satan is deceiving and cunning. In other words, it may SEEM like God is doing it. The miracles and signs performed by Satan will resemble God's work. Believers may look to it and be tricked. At first we may feel encouraged and strengthened by these false works. But if we look at the result and outcome, the bearing fruit will  not resemble God's will for His people. But thanks to the Lord that He knows our weaknesses and He has provided a safe haven for all His children. Where is this safe place? In the body of Christ. Just as the mark of the beast (v.16) will forcefully bring a division amongst the human race, we believers have a mark, the seal of the One and Only, True Holy Spirit. We may fall and fall short, we may stumble and make mistakes, but the body, the Church, the community in Christ will encourage us, "prophesy" for us, and bring us back into the arms of God. This is only possible because why? Because of what Jesus had done. The mark of the beast may be numbered, but our mark is eternal. And so (v.18) this calls for wisdom. What is this wisdom? Wisdom of man? Wisdom of pastors? Wisdom from miracles and signs? No, none except the Word of God, the Bible. Yes, God is able to do miracles in our time, and He does do them. But is that what we look to? Is that the reason why we believe? Well, we are quick to answer "No, of course not!" But in reality when we see things, when we experience such signs, it's hard not to believe. Myself included...But we are reminded of what our Lord Jesus had said, "See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet...all these are but the beginning of the birth pains (cf. Rev. 12:2 "birth pains")...but the one who endures to the end will be saved...For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. So, if they say to you, 'Look, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out. If they say, 'Look, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it." (Verses from Matt. 24 (I quoted from the ESV because the ESV version was right in front of me)).

Whatever the stage we are in before Christ comes, it does not matter. I need to be ready NOW! Will I ever be ready? Probably not. And so all I can do is continue to ask God for His mercy, His wisdom, His strength. I don't know what will happen tomorrow, or even a second from now. But I know that if I remain, abide, in Christ right now, not later, but now, I know that is my safe place. I am thankful that I have brothers and sisters in Christ who are with me on this. We need to stick together as a cluster of grapes (read John 15 on the True Vine...remaining/abiding in Christ) and so the church, the community is so important. Whether we are seas and oceans apart, or right next door, we need to pray for one another, and stay strong in God's Word. I hope I can be a "good" pastor for the Lord's sheep. Amen.

Sat QT Dec 11 on Rev. 14:14-20

I am reminded of Matthew 13 where Jesus speaks of the parable of the weed and the wheat. In Rev. 14:14 the one "like a son of man" may be Jesus as the QT writer suggests, but it may also be a representative of Jesus, an angel (and angels), as Jesus said, who would harvest the crop (Matt. 13:39). In any case, it is harvest time and the "good" and "evil" are reaped and sifted. (As Joshua Lee Smith commented yesterday in our Bible study that I write too much, I will shorten it. *^^*) It may not be the time of harvest now, but it is a good time to reflect on how gracious our God is to choose me to be a wheat. It may sound boastful and conceited, but we all know I don't deserve it, and it's only because of the grace of God, the work of His Son Jesus. Christmas is coming up, and once again it's time to refocus on the meaning and significance of my life in Christ, and what Christmas truly stands for. Gifts? Presents? Parties? Yes, all that is true. But if you remember in our QT on Sunday the 5th, on the Two Witnesses (Rev. 11:10), after the people of the earth killed the Messengers, what did they do? "The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will CELEBRATE by SENDING each other GIFTS!!!!, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth." Anyway, the true saints of God offer gifts to each other on Christmas because we received the greatest GIFT of all! Christ Jesus! Amen...I like presents. We all do. But all this gift giving, at least in the perspective of Christians, must be grounded on the fact that God has chosen us, given us the greatest GIFT...FAITH in Christ (remember we learned this in our Bible study last week and yesterday?). And so, when we are in the True Vine (John 15), we are the grapes who "remain" or "abide" in Him. When we are gathered, we are not pressed by the "great winepress of God's wrath (v.19). We are not fermented? to be made into wine, but kept whole and juicy, sweet and plump...lol...ripe for God's pleasure. (Oh no, Josh is going to hurt me...) I hope as I get closer to Christmas, I can share the "eternal gospel" (Rev. 14:6 from yesterday's QT), a gift I received not too long ago. I love my NEW LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This passage is John占쏙옙s depiction of the war on earth between Satan and God占쏙옙s people. 17, that those who are considered to be the 占쏙옙rest of the seed占쏙옙, the saints, are those who 占쏙옙keep the commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.占쏙옙 Though physical death is still possible for God占쏙옙s people, the resurrection and life eternal in Christ is the true end for believers. Satan占쏙옙s deception, lies and false-teachings may give us the illusion of safety in our comfort zones. But John reminds us that 占쏙옙the rest of her seed占쏙옙 are those who 占쏙옙keep the commandments and are a witness of Jesus. This is why we believers (must) go through persecution and suffering. Satan will attack.

Jesus himself tells all those who belong in him 占쏙옙If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before you.
