In my posting on 16.12.2013
(ie. the last posting on the thread with subject:
Re-criminalisation of gay sex in India)
I had expressed how I began to lean in favour of Modi.
In that list was one item number 3:
>3. Very importantly: the interesting fact that the likes
> of Praveen Togadia, RSS and VHP campaigned against Modi.

(Takes a little time to load - so be patient
and read on until the 5th and 6th para at least).
Modis rule in Gujarat over 3 terms and the implementation
of the development agenda appears to most observers to
have been blind to 'religion'. I further drew confidence
from the above article that Modi had successfully sidelined
RSS and VHP philosophy in Gujarat and conducted himself in
keeping with a 'Uniform Civil Code' philosophy - which favours none.
In addition Congress has done so badly that I *want* to truly beleive
that Modi (and BJP under him) will keep religiosity
under check. If Hindutva means good governance and
Economic liberalism under a uniform civil code: I am all for it.
I like to think of RSS/VHP as an aberration just like
the Tea-party faction in the US Republican party.
I hope all this 'like to think' and
'want to truly beleive' views are justified.
The following coverage of BJP electioneering makes me very worried:
http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/truth-vs-hype/truth-vs-hype-the-sangh-parivar-s-mission-modi/316017
I worry that RSS and VHP might celebrate a win for Modi
by instigating victory riots and pogroms in middle India.
This may be done purposely to compromise Modi and bring
BJP back to religiosity. I hope I am wrong.
