Hello Fellow Classmates,

1. The two roles of servant leadership are, 1. A visionary role.  (Setting the course and the destination) 2. An implementation role (doing things right with a focus on serving)

I agree that they are two sides of the same coin.  I believe that a servant leader must have a vision as to what he/she wants to be accomplished among those who are being influenced by his /her leadership.  Secondly, whatever he/she wishes to accomplish should be done with the  right motives.  Leaders must remember that it is not about them but it is about God and the building of His kingdom.  The bible reminds us that he who is the greatest among us is he who serves.  Many however, seems to forget these words and their preference is to be served. If leaders have selfish motives whatever they do will be tainted; and the glory must be directed towards God and not towards them.

2. The vision of the ministry I serve is UPWARD.

United

Praying

Worship

Accept

Reach

Disciple

Our mission is ENLIST

E= Educate, encourage and develop an army of courageous believers who are committed to kingdom building and biblical literacy.

N= Nurturing believers in the faith and teaching them how to win others to the faith through lifestyle evangelism, personal soul winning, and biblical preaching.

L= Love others through sincere fellowship, accountability and partnership in soul winning.

I= Intercession, intimacy and dependence on God through established prayer centers in homes and neighborhoods in the counties surrounding the church.

S=Supporting clergy and laity through mutual affirmation, biblical support and team work.

T=Teaching, training, and releasing the army of believers to become proactive in inviting, meeting, winning, mentoring, serving and communicating positive values to all new believers.

 3. To be a servant leader is a very difficult and pressing responsibility.  Every good leader seeks to adequately equip those who will take over his or her role or responsibility.  The true leader feels elated when the individual who he/she influences performs at a higher lever that he/she did.  It is imperative to pass on knowledge, good examples, a godly life, and any spiritual resources that one can provide to others.   If the leader always wants to be in the spotlight as the center of attention he/she will not pass on knowledge and resources to others.  Jesus knew that he would not be around forever, therefore for three and a half years he taught his disciples because he wanted them to function and carry on the work of ministry in his absence.  Some leaders do not care about what will happen to a particular ministry or department once they are no longer in charge.  The bible specifically states that in the last days some will be lovers of self more than lovers of God, heady and high minded.  However, let us as servant not forget the legacy that we will leave behind.  It is very important to sow good fruits.  Let us endeavor to help our successors meet the challenge of their season with all the wisdom, knowledge and spiritual resources that we can provide. This is the fruit of great servant leadership.

  1. The two roles of servant leadership are: A visionary, and implementation role. I feel that these two roles do indeed walk hand in hand; for a leader that wants his followers to respect him he must show them the way. If the way is not shown by the leadership the organization will not meet its potential. There is a saying that says to “lead by example.” Jesus showed his disciples how to treat on another with respect and servitude by washing their feet in John 1-17. Also the Lord instructed us on how to treat little children. “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14) Christ showed his disciples and others how much he loved them by dying for all of humanity on a tree. Jesus like any good leader didn't just talk about the vision; he led his followers to complete the vision.
  2. The youth ministry that I am apart of is named New Directions Youth Ministry. The name was placed in the spirit of our youth President Saida Jeudy-St.Val, and we’re using it to make a statement. We understand the youth that has come before us in the church were not really close to God and have completely fell away, but we want to be different; thus we are going in a new direction with the Lord leading us in every phase of our lives. The mission and vision statement are still a work in progress, but our purpose is laying a solid foundation for the future.
  3. This question reminds me of the King Saul and how he grew jealous of David. Instead of showing the future King how to properly lead the children of Israel; he chose to rather seek David’s life. (1 Samuel 19) This is a great test to see who is Exalting God Only, or Edging God Out. We are mere mortal humans on this earth who have an appointed time to go up to yonder. So we should be preparing leadership to take our place, always mentoring and giving advice. Also we should not hold any information back; because one day the student should surpass the master.

Phase III Week 3

Lead Like Jesus

Hello!

1.     What are the two roles of servant leadership do you agree that they are two sides of the same coin?

The two roles of servant leadership are Vision and Implementation

I agree they are two sides of the same coin.  A leader must set a clear vision and implementation for his followers to follow. A good leader leads by example and engage his/her followers as the vision comes to fruition.  For the vision to be realized in any organization there must be respect demonstrated by the leader to the followers.  Jesus a great leader “He washes His disciple’s feet — John 13:12.

What is the mission and vision statement of the ministry you serve?

PT Drama Ministry

Mission: Our mission is to advance as we awaken hearts to the Gospel through an encounter with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ thus fulfilling the great commission.

Vision:    Our vision is first and foremost aligned with the vision of our Pastor which is the acronym U.P.W.A.R.D. Through the ministry it is our desire to edify the body of Christ by dramatizing what is means to foster Unity, Praise, Worship, Accept, reach and thus becoming good Disciples.

2.     “The fruit of a great leader is realized”.  Any leader should be happy to see such a person doing an incredible job based on their teaching/training from their leadership. It does the leader’s heart proud to see the evidence of spiritual maturity, wisdom, and knowledge from the follower.   For instance a young man leaving his parent home and handles life’s challenges good, that makes the parents proud.  A student no longer under the leading of his professors but his behavior and work attitude shows that the professor had invested tremendously in him/her life.  Jesus a great leader empowered His disciples to go out into the world to preach and to save mankind.  From His teaching today persons are being saved.

Hi Everyone,

The two roles of servant leadership are vision and implementation. These two roles work hand in hand and are not independent of each other. A clear, credible and realistic vision is essential for the ministry to run successfully. Everyone involved should have a clear sense of where the ministry is going. Only when the leaders of the ministry know and agreed with the vision can they begin to attend to the strengthening of the ministry's ability to deliver the vision.
Secondly, the process of successful ministry, through servant leadership is implementation. This is achieved through training, preparing, and equipping members to live according to the vision and accomplish the desired goals.

2.
The vision and mission statement of the ministry I serve is as follows:

Vision.

We are Joy Church of God a biblically sincere, spiritually renewed, and socially relevant community.

Mission.

Joy Church of God exist to lovingly present the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to encourage a spirit filled relationship with Him and perpetuate growth through the joy of service.

3.
I agree that " the fruit of great servant leadership is realized when a leader seeks to send the next generation of leaders to meet the challenge of their season with all the wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual resources he or she can provide". The servant leader focuses on inspiring and enabling people to achieve their full potential. It is not about control, power or status. But for servant leaders, they enable and empower their people, growing them into servant leaders also. The Christ-centered servant leader develop character that models that of the servant-king -Jesus.
The journey and transformation of the disciples becoming 12 Apostles, was marked by Jesus using simple, straightforward strategy designed to enable them to develop and maximize their kingdom potential. It is a model of service. Jesus' focus was not to control, or get the disciples to simple follow commands. He was focused on equipping them to be fully effective in ministry, especially when when He was gone; This is the hallmark of the servant leader. This is the outlook of the Christ-centered servant leader..

Phase 3 Week 3 (Chapter 3 Lead Like Jesus)

1.What are the two roles of servant leadership do you agree that they
are two sides of the same coin.

I certainly agree that vision and implementation are the two. Without vision it is like the people wonder around without knowing in what direction they should depart from. Implementation that is what keeps the vision going until goals are reached.

2. What is the mission and vision statement of the
ministry you serve?

We commit ourselves to making prayer the highest priority of the church demonstrated by:
Every local church becoming a house of prayer for all nations.
Emphasizing communication with God as the highest privilege and greatest responsibility of every member.
Modeling by all church leadership of an active and effective prayer life.
Uniting with other believers in corporate and intercessory prayer.

3. Comment; “the fruit of great servant leadership is realized when a
leader seeks to send the next generation of leaders to meet the
challenge of their season with all the wisdom, knowledge, and
spiritual resources he or she can provide.

Many leaders, take leadership as a personal or family wealth. That means they view themselves as sole leaders from one generation to the next. If they are not leading, their sons must be leading or some family member must lead. In the excellent model of leadership from Jesus, we see a totally different kind; the one that prepares leaders to face the challenge of their generation with all maturity necessary to continue the lead. It is not about a blood related family member, but the one who is taught and prepared to lead. Jesus taught his disciples and provided them with wisdom, knowledge and resources necessary. In the same context, in all great leadership, the vision continues even after the current leader dies. For instance, history was made black on white when Barack Obama was elected as the first African American president of the United State of America. That was what Martin Luther king jr. meant when he said that : " I have a dream." Malcolm X continued what Martin Luther started. In the same way, Barack Obama, after his graduation from the Ivy league university, turned down high pay job offers to continue the vision of Mr. King which was the civil right movement. As Christians, we have to continue the excellent model of leadership that Christ started.

Hi Frantz Saintilma,

It is amazing how leadership can go to the head of some people.  It seems as if some individuals are never tired of leading others.  They feel as if their family should always be in the lime light.  I believe that these individual miss the true essence of leadership.  Therefore they would never think it necessary to share their resources or wisdom with anyone outside of their family.  In addition they would find it difficult to compliment anyone doing a good job in any leadership position because they feel threatened.  However, as children of God our main focus should be on servant leadership and this means doing our best to develop others because we recognize that their time and generation needs them and also that our time has a limit here on earth but the work of God must go on.  Therefore, leaders must always have the future in mind.  According to Blanchard & Hodges in the book entitled Lead Like Jesus, “we must lead by setting course and direction, and serve by empowering and supporting others in implementation".

1.      What are the two roles of servant leadership do you agree that they are two sides of the same coin.

The two roles of servant leadership are:

i.                    A visionary role – setting the course and the destination.

ii.                  An implementation role – doing things right with a focus on serving.

I do agree that they are two sides of the same coin because every leader has a dual role not only does a leader set a course but there  has to a plan how to carry out his or her vision (pg 84).

2.      What is the vision and mission statement of the ministry you serve?

I currently serve at Praise Temple Church of God our vision statement is UPWARD coined by our Pastor, Bishop Clive McBean. It implies toward a higher place. We will move into the higher place by giving priority to the following words that define the vision.

U – United. Endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace (Eph.4:3).

P – Praying. “…prayers, intercession, and giving thanks, to be made of all men” (I Tim. 2:1).

W – Worship.  “Enter into is gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.”(Psalm 100:4)

A – Accept. “Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of  God.” ( Rom. 15:7).

R – Reach. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel…” (Mark 15:16)

D – Disciple. “Teaching them to observe all things… (Matt. 28:20)

 3.      Comment, “the fruit of great servant leadership is realized when a leader seeks to send the next generation of leaders to meet the challenge of their season with all wisdom, knowledge and spiritual resources he or she can provide.

I do believe that the greatest desire of a servant leader is to see those that they are leading become effective leaders as well. Leading like Jesus is focusing on the development of people around you. (pg. 111) a servant leader should come to the point where he sees the growth and potential of those they have invested in and allow them to be the servant leader they are called to be, fulfilling their assignment -that is meeting the challenges of their season.

                                Phase 3 Week 3

Greetings!

1.     The two roles of servant leadership are:

·        Visionary role which denotes setting the course and destination.

·        Implementation role which denotes doing things right with a focus on serving.

I most definitely agree that they are two sides of the same coin. John 5:19 tells us “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do:  for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” which shows in His expression of humility and obedience and dependence that He is completely dependent upon the Father and John 10:30 says “I and my Father are one” which indicates equality. As Christ and the Father are two sides of the same coins so is their message on servant leadership.

2.     The authors of our work book succinctly put it while referencing Ken and Jesse Stoner’s book  Full steam ahead: The power of vision that to reach out to the hearts and minds of others we need three aspects

·        Purpose: what you are in or about.

·        Vision: what your future outlook entails

·        Values: what you stand for

No one gets as excited or has as much passion as you do for your ministry.  No one talks about, promotes or champions for your ministry more than you therefor if you infuse the approach servant leader then all these enthusiastic attributes will surely flow down to those Ministering with and around you.

3.     In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. From the beginning of time Christ knew that He will be coming into this world to recruit and disciple 12 men who will eventually be sent out on a journey that changed and is continuously changing the world. All His  years of ministry, all His sufferings and all His messages will have been fruitless and to no avail if He had not fully prepared them for the impending mission. The fruit joy of His labor was fulfilled when He was eventually able to “wean” them from His proverbial umbilical cord.
