Enclosed is my response re this lesson

Respond to the statement by Richard Foster, to understand His grace is to understand our guilt.

In understanding God's grace, is to experience His forgiveness through His Son, Jesus Christ. To understand our guilt we need to have an experience in likeness to Isaiah's who cried, 'woe is me! For I am lost. I am unclean and I live among unclean people....and now he was beholding the face of the Lord' (Isa 6:5) we are made aware as to how guilty we are once we have experienced the grace of God. King David, when confronted by the prophet regarding his sins, did not hesitate but prostrated himself before the Lord and sought His forgiveness. He knew that a merciful God would extend mercy to a repentant heart.

1. Praise is another avenue into worship.

Praise is always annexed to worship. I believe that for us to enter into true worship, we must begin with praise. Praise does allow us to get God's attention. This combination of praise and worship will allow us to experience the very presence of God which will bring un-imaginary blessings into our lives. The book of Psalms has several chapters that lead us into praise of The Almighty.

2. The mightiest stirring of praise in the twentieth century has been the charismatic movement.

It has been said that the charismatic movement started with Pentecost in the 1st century. This movement receded after some time but this spirit of praise was re-stirred mightily in the 20th century. God has breathed a fresh breath of new life into millions thereby bringing saints to a greater awareness of how to centrally come together in praise and worship.

3. Singing is meant to move us into praise.

Singing is truly one of the avenues that lead us into praise. It does make sad hearts glad and brings us to the place where we open-up our hearts to give praise to our God. Privately at times, we sing songs that lift our spirit and move us into praise…Like making melody in our hearts to the Lord!

4. God calls for worship that involves our whole being.

When we are engaged in worship we are expected to do so in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) God desires true worship of His people and until we have totally given over ourselves in worship to Him, He will not accept our praise and worship. We would do well to ensure that we keep our hearts pure by constantly seeking His face and walking in His word. I especially like the refrain of this hymn; “I surrender all” My desire is to walk daily with Him in a state of full surrender.

Powerful Video!  I was so blessed by the impact of their singing: everyone from choir to pew was intimately connected as they sang the expression on their faces and the manner in which they sang, gave me the impression that they were truly looking into the face of the Lord. I have been challenged, myself being a member of a choir and feel blessed to be able to praise God in song.

Note: These lessons have lifted me up to another level in my praise and worship to my God. I fell challenged and blessed!

To explain the above statement, the best reference will be Isaiah 6:1-13), when Isaiah saw the Glory of the LORD, he understood his unholiness in his life, and he surrendered himself to God. I am happy that when Isaiah admitted his fault Lord given sanctification. When we read John 21:5, we could see that the disciples including Peter was with an empty boat and Jesus said “Cast the net on the right side of the boat”, they got multitude of fishes. When Peter identified it is Jesus and His glory again we reads “he girt his fisher’s coat unto him (for he was naked) and did cast himself into the sea”. We could see that Peter realised his fault when he saw the Glory of our Lord. But our Jesus was merciful and He already prepared food for His disciples including Peter.

In addition, respond to the following statements:

1. Praise is another avenue into worship.

The Psalms are the literature of worship and their most prominent feature is praise. “Praise the Lord!” is the shout that reverberates from one end of the Psalter to the other. Singing, shouting, dancing, rejoicing, adoring—all are the language of praise. The Old Covenant required the sacrifice of bulls and goats. The New Covenant requires the sacrifice of praise. If you read “Leviticus” Chapter 1 we could see that LORD called Moses and explained the way how to do offering for God. I want to point one thing that every offering made by fire becoming “sweet savor unto Jehovah”. Our praises also should be in fire and it should “Sweet savor unto our LORD.

2. The mightiest stirring of praise in the twentieth century has been

the charismatic movement.

If you look at the history of Christianity whenever spiritual failures/blindness happens in Christian world there will be a charismatic movement which leads a group people to worship Lord in a new spiritual experience like a great Revival and it spreaded to all arround the world. Revival means change so Christians have started to more acknowledge their spiritual state and when they reach out to God in worship their dry bones have become mighty armies for the Lord. Once of the best example I could point here is the "Azusa Street Revival" was a historic Pentecostal revival meeting that took place in Los Angeles, California and is the origin of the Pentecostal movement. It was led by William J. Seymour, an African American preacher. It began with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and continued until roughly 1915. The revival was characterized by ecstatic spiritual experiences accompanied by miracles, dramatic worship services, speaking in tongues, and inter-racial mingling. The participants were criticized by the secular media and Christian theologians for behaviors considered to be outrageous and unorthodox, especially at the time. Today, the revival is considered by historians to be the primary catalyst for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century.

3. Singing is meant to move us into praise.

Singing provides a medium for the expression of emotion. Through music we express our joy, our thanksgiving. No less than forty-one psalms command us to “sing unto the Lord.” If singing can occur in a concentrated manner it serves to focus us. We become centered. Our fragmented minds and spirits flow into a unified whole. We become poised toward God. I totally agree with the author, Singing will help us to blend yourself into worship.

4. God calls for worship that involves our whole being.

God calls for worship that involves our whole being. The body, mind, spirit, and emotions should all be laid on the altar of worship. Often we forget that worship should include the body as well as the mind and the spirit. The Bible describes worship in physical terms. The root meaning for the Hebrew word we translate worship is “to prostrate.” The word “bless” literally means “to kneel.” Thanksgiving refers to “an extension of the hand.” Throughout Scripture we find a variety of physical postures in connection with worship. We are to present our bodies to God in a posture consistent with the inner spirit in worship. Standing, clapping, dancing, lifting the hands, lifting the head are postures consistent with the spirit of praise. To sit still looking dour is simply not appropriate for praise. Kneeling, bowing the head, lying prostrate are postures consistent with the spirit of adoration and humility. Also our inner body also should involve in the worship. So basically we are forgetting about our surroundings and concentrating only to God.

In addition watch this video and share what you experienced while watching.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URQrgeyeUD4

I really enjoyed the worship video, Just imagine the situation “Train of His role fills the temple, a cloud of heavenly worshipers surround His throne, we join with them and sing Holy Holy….”.

As we read from 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 :

indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying:

“For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever,”

That the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud,  so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.
