Greetings,
On Saturday, May 30th, the Watoto Children’s Choir will be performing their production, Oh, What Love! at the Asbury Park First Methodist Church. In addition, spoken word will also be featured! ADMISSION IS FREE!
Initially, Watoto was started as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Africa, whose lives had been ravaged by war and disease. Today, the choir stands united as advocates and soldiers for God. Based on the verse 1 John 3:1 that says, "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are," the Watoto Children’s Choir presents a story of separation and suffering, of intervention and new life, told by children who were once orphans. In the heart of adversity, these children demonstrate the courage life demands in order to face its challenges as well as God's unconditional love! The mission of Watoto is to RESCUE the vulnerable, RAISE each one as a leader so that they in turn will REBUILD their nation. Ultimately, this event has the power to not only change lives, but as well, touch hearts.

Currently, we are seeking more individuals to be a part of the social media team as well as artists that would like the opportunity to display their artwork at the event. Even if these are not your fields of expertise, there are still other ways to participate toward the cause! If you would like to learn more information about the event or how YOU can get involved, please feel free to contact me at 732-678-6034 or at watotoas...@gmail.com.
LETTERS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE CAN BE PROVIDED UPON REQUEST.

Thank you and God Bless!

Discipleship & Evangelism; Chapter 3, Growing True Disciples, George Barna

1. List four reasons why discipleship matters.

(1) It matters because Jesus modelled it and commanded it.

(2) It matters because discipleship is necessary for the church to become healthy and productive.

(3) It matters because we cannot reach our potential without spiritual growth.

And (4) It matters because we cannot influence the world unless we can demonstrate faith-based transformation

2. Explain the role of the CHURCH page 46-50

The church, which is a body of Christian believers, does have a roll in the lives of the believers. It is important that the church meets together regularly for the purpose of Prayer, Praise, worship, bible-study, to hear and to preach the word, fellowship and social events. There is however, a role that the church has been assigned to carry out wherever they might be, and that is to evangelize the world and baptized those who have been saved. (Matt 28:  Those who have come to know the Lord as their Savior and having now separated themselves from the world need to be mentored or coached. In so doing, the church ought to, (as per pages 46-50) shoulder the task of selecting, training and assigning mentors to the new members as well as members who have not yet become matured in the faith. This provides them with the help needed to take them through the difficult transitional period and beyond.  According to the writer, 55 % of the congregants interviewed, would welcome the idea of being mentored or coached. It is clear that after the early church was mentored and Holy Ghost filled, they went everywhere evangelizing the unchurched world and following up with water baptism with great success.

Coaching and mentoring is currently being done in the church where I serve however, the scope of such programs in my opinion, needs to be broadened to involve more members with a view of helping more of our hurting people. So many of our youths are finding it difficult to handle peer pressure on a daily  basis and they do need the church to come to their rescue. Also, because of stress due to economic conditions, many of the adults are seeking help in this area.

(Steps towards starting a mentoring program for youth.)

I have been praying about it. My concern has caused me to mention it to the leadership. I have talked to members whom I believe would be willing to assist in spearheading such a program, some of whom have been having difficulty dealing with their troubled youths. I am now being motivated to revisit this matter with a view of getting the program started especially for the youths. I do crave your prayers.

Greetings to All,

Please see my response below.

List four reasons why discipleship matters.

Discipleship matters because

-          Jesus modeled it and commanded it

-          Discipleship is necessary for the church to become healthy and productive

-          We can’t reach our potential without spiritual growth.

-          We can’t influence the world unless we can demonstrate faith-based transformation.

Explain the role of the CHURCH page 46-50

Churches have tremendous opportunity to facilitate deeper commitment among believers. From the survey it shows that most of the churches are encouraging spiritual growth. But some of them believers felt that spiritual growth is considering as one of the two or three highest ministry priority in the church, but half said it is just one of many ministries or programs of the church. In general churches have a big role in spiritual growth of a believer. Church can be a mentor or coach for a believer to grow spiritually. Churches should focus on believers to bring people to maturity in Christ. Another major role doing by church is coaching or mentoring. According George Barna, Mentoring has influenced the lives of more than forty million adult believers.

How could coaching and mentoring work in your church. What steps will you take in start a mentoring program for youth?

We have Adult Bible study at our church every Sunday, when kids are attending Sunday school classes. Pastor chooses a subject for example basic beliefs, then will take systematic classes about it. This helps me to understand the subject in detail. Also for one year, we got training on “Evangelism” for one year, which is also very systematic and went for street evangelism as a practical side of it.

One of best way to mentor youth is through Sunday school. Teachers are good mentors all time. Also arrange a prayer/special request box (Locked one) for youth and ask children and youth to share their issues and prayer request through that and arrange one person who can be a good mentor to handle these. Mentor can get help from other teachers or parents or Pastor to solve the issue. One drawback with this idea, we need to find a good mentor who can handle the issue and also the ability to keep the matter secret.

Thank you so much for your prayer and support.

With Prayers
