The 4 stages are: 1-Novice; 2-Apprentice; 3-Journeyman and 4-Master/Teacher

At stage 1, the leader’s role is to provide basic information to the novice, which serves as an orientation phase to get the individual started.

At stage 2, the leader’s role is to train the Apprentice giving step by step guidance so as to have the individual properly prepared for his/her job assignments.

At stage 3, the leader’s role is to give encouragement, to inspire and show appreciation for the work the Journeyman has been doing.

At stage 4, the leader’s role is to commission the Master/Teacher and thereafter, keep track of their progress where possible. Such leader should be ready if requested, to lend his/her support when necessary.

The 5 habits that Jesus applied are as follows:-

1- Solitude; 2- Prayer; 3- Study and application of scripture; 4-Accepting and responding to God’s unconditional love; 5-Involvement in supportive relationships.

My views on the Accountability Group Model are: (A) I truly like it as it is set forth in the lesson. (B) I would like to attempt the use of this model with some variation of the time factor. (C) Thank God, I have not, by His Grace, found myself negatively impacted by any of the sample questions as set forth. The positive ones are within my reach and with God’s help I am making progress daily. I believe that this group accountability model is healthy and should be embraced by those who are in the business of providing Christian leadership.

As a leader, there will always be the need to walk alongside those that you are leading while providing them necessary guidance. By using this model, I believe that I could get my students to use the simple guidelines as laid out in the model which would have them becoming accountable to others of the group while simultaneously taking responsibility for their actions. The writers pointed out that Jesus took control of situations when His disciples in training were failing in their attempts to complete a task at hand. He was their coach and role model. His leadership over a short period of time produced the best prepared team known, ever. Because this model matches by comparison, the approach Christ took in the training of His disciples, I believe that by putting into practice the 5 habits outlined on page 188 of the manual, I would be able to help my students to become better Christians.

God bless you all – and here I add my closing scripture - found in 1Corinthians15:58 – Therefore……..

Phase 3 Week 3 LEAD LIKE JESUS Chapter 4 & 5

What are the four stages of learning a new task or skill and what

is the role of the leader at each stage. Page 119-150

Novices are people who are just starting out to perform a particular task or to accomplish an assigned goal. A novice needs the leader to provide basic information. The disciples were certainly novices when Jesus first encountered them. In Matthew 4:18-20 we could see that Jesus called Peter and his brother Andrew by saying “Come follow me … I will make fishers of men.”  When they followed Jesus, they had no idea of how to accomplish their new tasks. At that stage of learning, they were dependent on Jesus to teach them about the new task.

Apprentices are people in training who have not yet mastered all the information and skills to work alone. They need to be assured that they are doing the right thing in the right way and to be corrected when they don’t quiet “have it”. Jesus had responded to a number of situations with His disciples as they were apprenticing with Him. For example the disciples were discouraged when they were unable to cast a demon out of a boy whom a father brought to them.(We could see in Matthew 10, that “Casting out demons was one of the tasks Jesus  had assigned to the disciples.). When they failed in their task, Jesus rebuked the demon…. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked “Why couldn’t we drive it out” He replied “Because you have so little faith”… (Matthew 17:18-20). Notice that Jesus gave the disciples truthful information as to why they were unable to do the task. Also Jesus explained the solution to overcome the situation (Prayer and Fasting).

Journeyman: People who have acquired well-developed skills in performing a task or role- have progressed to a point were all they need from a leader is to be told when and where to apply their skills. Peter exhibited behaviors characteristics of a journeyman when he walked on water (Matthew 14:26-30). Most of the time we were thinking of the “cry of Peter when he sank into the water”, but we should realize that Peter already walked on the water. Also when Peter sank into the water, Jesus helped him immediately (Jesus didn’t let Peter sink into the water and think about his mistake) and also we need to remember that they were still outside of the boat.  As a leader providing support to the people around us is so key to their continual development.

Masters are people with fully developed skills, confidence and motivation to produce excellent results as individual performers, as well as the wisdom and insight to teach others. Jesus desired for His disciples to be able to be fully inspired and fully for the task of being “Fishers of men”. This evident when we read about Peter spreading the good news in Acts 2:36-41.Under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, Peter is a master/teacher as he speaks to a crowd of thousands.

What are the five habits Jesus applied that countered the negative forces in His life? What is your view on: An Accountability Group Model?  Pages153-188.

Solitude: Solitude is being completely alone with God away from all human contact for extended periods of time. Jesus modeled solitude as an integral strategic component of His leadership. (Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 6:12-13, Matthew 14:13, Matthew 14:23)

Solitude is really necessary in our life too, but the timing may be differing from people to people. Only important thing is we should have enough calm time and try to listen God’s words. We could pray at that time but in small voice and forgot about our daily jobs.

Prayer: Prayer is the one that requires the most unlearning and revision of old habits and patterns. Without prayer, we will never be able to open the way for connecting our plans and efforts with God’s plan for His kingdom or engaging the spiritual resources that Jesus promised in the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus prayer in the garden of Gethsemane is an excellent example for leaders. Content of a prayer can be Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, supplication.

Prayer is an essential part of our life especially in leadership. It’s the communication to our God in Heaven. Prayer is the back bone of any ministry. Without prayer our ministry/leadership will be a failure.

Study and application of Scripture: Through the word of scripture, God invites you daily to experience new and exciting dimensions of His love. Scripture is the holy Word from holy God to teach holy truths and to make people holy. “ All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work(2 Timothy 3:16-17. Hear the Word, study the Word, Memorize the Word and Meditate on the Word will give you a clear understanding the God’s words.

I totally agree with the author, it is really necessary in a leader’s/Believer’s life. “All Scripture is God breathed…”, so it will work in our life, will be the light of our paths.

Accepting and responding to God’s unconditional love: In seeking to lead like Jesus, we will come to points of decision that will reveal where put our trust and hope. To lead like Jesus, we must Love Jesus (If you do not Love God, You must Love like Jesus (If you do not love Jesus, then you will not truly love the people you lead).

Involvement in supportive relationships: The time Jesus spent in fellowship with His disciples seems to have been for their benefit and His. Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus had all kinds of relationships with all kind of people, but He maintained a special, intimate relationship with a small group of disciples. Among the twelve that He called out to be His apostles, Jesus had a small group of three-Peter, James and John…(Matthew 17:1-9)  The most poignant and instructive episode involving this inner circle of intimate friendship occurred on the night Jesus would be arrested and start His final journey to the cross.(Matthew 26:37-38).

Adopting these same habits is essential for us to seek to follow Jesus as their role model for leadership.

your students become better Christians.

The world needs to see God, and the only way they will see Him is if they see God through us. It is really important to make a decision that should we lead like a worldly leader or like Jesus with 5 habits (Explained in my earlier response). As Jesus shows the way to us, we should follow His habits, in order to make others into His path. Practicing the habits will give us peace. I will follow Jesus’s habits to become a successful leader. Each and every habit is really important, but according to me Prayer will be the highest grade.
