Hello Paige! You probably haven’t heard from me before. My name is Irfan, and I’ve been a New Harvest Research Fellow since last year. I’m overjoyed to share that my FIRST cultured meat paper was published TODAY! I’m full of happy feelings; today, maybe for the first time in months, I feel like a cultured meat scientist. Even better, the publication is completely open access, and it is in a journal called Foods, in the section called Meat.  “Dual-Crosslinked Alginate-Based Hydrogels with Tunable Mechanical Properties for Cultured Meat” is a monumental achievement. This original research brings us closer to eliminating animal-based materials from the scaffolding process for cultured meat production. This publication would not have been possible without New Harvest. The team supported my vision, the donors made the work possible, and the other fellows shared lab protocols, gave feedback on my data, and simply lent an ear to my woes about tough days in the lab. In fact, if it wasn’t for New Harvest, I might have never gotten the chance to start my cell ag career with a fully-funded PhD in cultured meat research. New Harvest empowered me in ways that no other funding agency or non-profit organization could. I’ll be submitting my story as part of their impact story survey. If you’ve felt changed by New Harvest’s work personally - however big or small - you should submit a story too!
