I’m excited to share that we’re launching our newest entity: Stichting New Harvest Netherland.
The Netherlands is a natural entry point for New Harvest in Europe. From producing the first patent for cultured meat to the first burger prototype, the Netherlands has stood at the forefront of cellular agriculture, cultured meat in particular.
Being a key source of agricultural products for the world, the Netherlands takes developments in this sector seriously. And with recent advances seen in Singapore and the US, the Netherlands will need to build infrastructure to keep pace in this rapidly growing field.
Their recent grant of €60M for cell ag research is a strong signal that the government is interested in making this happen. We’ve already joined Cellulaire Agricultuur Nederland (CAN), the multi-stakeholder community whose initial core members successfully applied for that grant, raised another €25M from private sources, and will help implement use of those funds. We are excited for the opportunity to assist CAN with their work, including finding more funding opportunities and coordinating work with them to build the ecosystem.
The same challenges hold true for other European nations – inside or outside the European Union – who we will also be working with from our home in the Netherlands.
Our first five board directors have just been onboarded, and while we secure other important instruments for a non-profit working in the Netherlands, we are already collaborating with a variety of stakeholders across the cell ag space.
