Hi Meera,
This year, New Harvest celebrated our biggest win yet.
Thanks to our community's longterm investment, our biggest research partner, the Kaplan Lab at Tufts University, was awarded $10 million by the USDA to form the first-ever National Institute of Cellular Agriculture.
Back in 2015, such an institute was a collective pipe dream of the New Harvest community. I want to take a moment to properly celebrate this win and the role so many of you played in making it happen.
2015
The New Harvest community coins the term "cellular agriculture" to describe a hypothetical "centre of excellence" devoted to cell-cultured research.
2016
New Harvest donors rally together to fund Natalie Rubio as she begins one of the world's first cellular agriculture PhDs in the Kaplan Lab at Tufts University.
2017 - 2020
New Harvest donors invest just under $1 million in six research grantees at the Kaplan Lab, helping to grow the lab into a cultured meat hub.
2021
New Harvest's initial million-dollar investment in the Kaplan Lab multiplies TEN FOLD when Dr. Kaplan wins a $10 million grant from the USDA to form the first-ever National Institute of Cellular Agriculture.
ALL OF THIS was made possible thanks to you having the foresight to believe in a better world—one where where meat, milk, and eggs are grown from cells instead of farmed from living, breathing animals.
When the rest of the world dismissed cultured meat as a crazy, moonshot idea, the New Harvest community gave us license to throw everything we had at making it happen.
Cultured meat isn't some one-off stunt. It's a movement of visionaries playing the long game—more on that here. And I promise you this...we're just getting started.
Whether you’ve been with us since 2004 or just found out about us last week, thank you for joining me on this journey.
