| | Hello New Harvest!
I’m sorry to say that New Harvest 2023 will not be taking place.
We gave ourselves a strict go/no go deadline: if we could raise $150k by November 15, we could safely begin planning our big annual event.
Unfortunately, we couldn't reach that goal. We reached out to 125 different groups; many of them are in the same market-oriented situation we are in and told us as much: it just isn’t a good time to spend.
Why Nov 15? We definitely could have raised more had we extended the deadline - but it was a strategic decision. The conference is an enormous amount of work, and in 2022 we had an additional four full-time people on the team working on it. We simply couldn’t wait until the new year to make a go/no go decision. We need way more time to pull off an event at the same level of quality with fewer staff, and we simply can’t commit to work that we can not afford.
We’re already setting our sights on 2024. Our theme, “Paradigm Shift” is just too important of a set of conversations to set aside permanently.
In the meanwhile, we will focus on achieving the highest impact we can by advancing research that elevates the field as a whole.
