| | Hello Paige!
There have been a few highlights kicking around lately, so here we go with an old fashioned New Harvest round up!
SYNTHETIC CULTURES - Rotterdam
New Harvest recently acted as Scientific Advisors to an incredible new exhibition on view at the 10th edition of the Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, running until November 13, 2022.
Synthetic Cultures is a research project conceived, curated and designed by 2050+that looks at cultured meat from a multitude of perspectives, dissecting its politics, ethics, spatial-environmental implications, and history, as well as envisioning the foreseeable impacts of its development.
Dwayne Holmes and Rick Thyden from New Harvest offered their scientific expertise, advice, and even physical materials to the show. Check out the trailer here! And if you visit in person, tell us how it was!

SAFETY INITIATIVE Pt. II - Singapore
Our very own Yadira Tejeda-Saldana and Bre Duffy are in Singapore with Kim Ong and JoAnne Shatkin of Vireo Advisors making things happen!
They have been making incredible progress on part II of the Cultured Meat Safety Initiative. The goal of this Phase II project is to bring international regulators and governmental scientists on the same page regarding the safety of cell cultured meat to most effectively advance cellular agriculture worldwide. The team had several policymakers from around the globe in lively discussion about the future of cultured meat.
We are still raising $150k for this project and would love for a sponsor to close this out so we can keep up our pace of progress. Please email me at is...@new-harvest.org if you would like more information.
FAO/WHO EXPERT CONSULTATION - Singapore
Organized by the FAO in collaboration with WHO, a 3.5 day expert consultation will be held in Singapore, shortly after New Harvest's Safety Workshop. The overall objective of the expert consultation is to develop a document with up-to-date technical knowledge on the food safety aspects of cell-based food production through the process of expert elicitation. As the first step of the initiative, the consultation will have a narrow scope of food safety hazard identification, while other legitimate issues around the topic is acknowledged. Very aligned to part I of the New Harvest Cultured Meat Safety Initiative!
A global call for experts was issued earlier this year, Bre Duffy from our team and JoAnne Shatkin from Vireo Advisors will both be members of the technical panel.
AGRI-FOOD WEEK - Singapore
In addition to the two big ticket items mentioned above, Bre and Yadira have been connecting with the global cellular agriculture community, tasting multiple cellular agriculture prototypes as part of Singapore Agri-Food Week. They were also pleased to see our article in Nature Food: Cultured Meat Needs a Race to Mission, Not a Race to Market highlighted in a talk titled "The state of art in global cultivated meat research" by Dr. Deepak Choudhury, Senior Scientist of the Bioprocessing Technology Institute at A*STAR!
NATURE FOOD WEBINAR - Online
Speaking of our Nature piece, check out the recording of lead author, New Harvest's Dwayne Holmes, alongside esteemed panelists Garrett Broad, Marianne Ellis, and co-author David Humbird in a webinar hosted by Nature Food titled "Taking stock: Cellular agriculture in sustainable food systems". Quite a discussion, which we believe is critical for advancing cellular agriculture.
We're also thrilled to share that our Nature piece was also mentioned in the first keynote of the Cultured Meat Symposium, which took place last week. Check that out - as well as Justin Kolbeck's sobering but hopeful talk - from their Day 1 program. All this impact in only two weeks since the paper was published!
DON'T FORGET: POSTER SALE!
ICYMI: To commemorate those momentous two days in June, we're doing a limited edition run of the Elephant in the Room posters, by donation, this week only.
That's all for this time.
Thank you so much to all of you who conrtributed to the poster sale and to the conference sponsorship so far. We are crossing our fingers that New Harvest 2023: Paradigm Shift will be a go. It's just too important an event - and a conversation - to not have.
