I'm emailing with an important update about New Harvest's cell ag crowdfunding challenge. Although the initial deadline to apply was January 23, we have extended the deadline and made admissions rolling until funds run out!

New Harvest's cell ag challenge is a funding opportunity to get mini cell ag projects (<1 year, ~$10,000 budget) off the ground quickly—without the red tape of traditional grants.
New Harvest provides an initial sum of money (up to $5,000) to select projects. Project leads then have one month to crowdfund the rest of their budget on Experiment.com.

1. Apply with a project of your own.
- Anyone is eligible, so long as you commit to keeping your findings open (you don't need to be affiliated with a university).
- Wet lab AND non wet lab projects are welcome (In fact, we are ESPECIALLY interested in social science projects. NH has compiled a list of ideas here).
- Rolling admissions until our pot of $50,000 runs out. (The dollar amount of remaining funding will be tracked on the left sidebar of the challenge page.)
2. Back a project.
3. Spread the word.
- Ultimately, this is a crowdfunding challenge—like Kickstarter, but for cell ag research! If a project strikes you as interesting, sharing it with even one person expands the "crowd."

As our collaborator Robert Downey Jr., wrote here, science funding is broken. Our hope is for this crowdfunding challenge to enable researchers to bypass the bureaucracy of traditional grants and get otherwise unfundable projects off the ground ASAP.
In our quest to build a world where meat, milk, and eggs come from cells instead of animals, we don't have time to waste.
