"FROG MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO BE UNVEILED SUNDAY (11/2)
A memorial bronze plaque for David “Frog” Miller will be unveiled at noon Sunday, November 2 at 871 E 13th Ave, Eugene in front of Port of Subs next to the Duck Store. The remembrance takes place one year following Frog’s passing and is located at the very same location where Frog began selling his self-published joke books on the sidewalk nearly 40 years ago. Visitors to the site will be able to scan for a chance to hear, once again, an inspiring Frog witticism.
After being ticketed by the City of Eugene for selling his books on the sidewalk without a license, Miller sued and in 1984, the Oregon Supreme Court struck down the city law as an unconstitutional limitation on free speech. For four decades Frog could be found selling his works in front of the Duck Store and at Saturday Market, Oregon Country Fair, WOW Hall and in front of most major Eugene events. The plaque was designed by Alison Brown and supported by the donations of over 60 fans of Frog’s “groan-worthy” jokes and the cooperation of The Duck Store and deChase>Miksis.
