Greetings All!
I finally made it to my 1st meeting last night and then my room became grand central station so I turned off my camera. In doing so, I shut myself out of everything. I could still hear the meeting though!
I wanted to introduce myself. I am Jen Moss. I am a founding board member at Friends of Fall Creek Watershed, a land steward at McKenzie River trust, a certified laughter yoga instructor, I am working on my sylvotherpay certification, and I am an Aquatics instructor who teaches Modified and Gentle water movement as well as swim lessons. I was also a volunteer for Cascades Raptor Center for 7 years which led me to a lot of what I am doing now.
Friends of Fall Creek Watershed started in 2017 as a way to clean-up the Fall Creek and Winberry areas and we have since grown to cleaning all of the Willamette National Forest, City of Oakridge, Umpqua National Forest, some BLM areas and other adjacent Watershed areas. We picked up 167,673 lbs of trash in 2025, and we have had 2000 volunteer hours since 2024. Our estimated total trash removed since 2017 is around 600,000 pounds which is equal to 300 tons or approximately 2 blue whales or 2 of the Statue of Liberty. Anyone is welcome to join us on a clean-up, even if all you are able to do is retrieve and open garbage bags. Clean-ups are being scheduled for every Sunday currently as long as there is trash to clean up and volunteers to help. You can find our events on our Facebook page. We have a current website of FOFCW.org which will be changed soon to a newer website reflecting our name change to Friends of the Willamette Cascades Watersheds. That will also have a working, updated calendar. You can still go to our old website currently and sign up for email updates and make donations. We also have an app that has been created and is being updated to be able to scout Forest watershed areas and report messes to clean and to help update the outdated forest road maps. We do work with the Forest Service as a partner.
We are also looking for folks to partner with in the outreach community to help us get resources to folks who have been living long term in the forest. There are a lot. Some for days or weeks, some for years.
I am excited to be a part of this community!
Thank you & Blessings!
Jen Moss
