Applestaff can tell you about the crack. I have had the problem twice and apple replaced the ipad both times. It seems a single edge to edge hairline crack occurs spontaneously, likely a flaw. If there is any spider web in the crack it means it was hit and no replacement. You are under warranty. Make an appt at the Apple store and they will likely replace the ipad assuming no signs of damage otherwise. My screen just cracked for the 3rd time. It was in a hard case with a glass screen protector. This problem needs to be addressed publicly.
I thought I was going crazy. The past few weeks I noticed that the finger print ID had not been working great. I thought about bringing it in but it wasn't sure it was something I could replicate. The home button would get a little hot and cause the home button to fail.(I had read on a forum that can happen when charging) I was home alone using it this morning, left it on my desk when I returned the screen was cracked around the home button and hairline cracks up the screen.
PCAMAN , did apple tell you anything else? Is this common? Will they replace the IPad or just the screen? Any advice on how to get it replaced. The truth is I have no idea what happened. I love apple products but I can't justify paying $450 to fix something I didn't do.
I dropped my iPad from a low distance, not very hard. I had an otter box around it. Upon dropping, the screen looked all crazy and the buttons main button didn't respond. I held the Power button and it turned off. I cannot get it to turn back on - the screen is black. It seems to have a little bit of backlight upon pressing the power button but nothing shows up on the screen. When I connected it to the computer, the iPad completely synched and it seems that all of the data is fine on it. Is there a way to fix the screen? Help!
jampot31 I dropped my ipad from 6 inches - and got the dreaded black screen - the reset didnt work, soft or hard and had resigned myself to an expensive repair when my wife said - if a small drop can break it, may a small drop can fix it...try dropping it onto the carpet a few times -
everyone's commented in the previous still doesn't work, not only me upset but my son was devastated as most of his homework and stuff from school and other education games are on it, dont know what to do as Apple Store is too far away for us especially I have a toddler & a new born baby, hopefully a miracle come overnight
Slap the back of the iPad increasingly harder until you see some colours on the screen (not just black) then power reset. It works much to my relief! I have seen this suggestion in a few threads although not this one. It's just a jarred connection.
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Crazy as it seems I had a black screen stuck ipad after a drop.. I udated software and noticed it was still alive but the screen was just flashing occasionaly while going through the start up prcess with latest update to iSO 7, but still the screen was black..out of desperation a few hard smacks on the sides with my hands and low and behold..a miracle, it works perfectly... Very touch iPad..handle with care. ?
I have the same problem, my ipad dropped and suddenly turn to black screen. After read the posts, i tried to drop my ipad from many angle on carpet floor, and then push the power button and home for few second, and its work. My ipad works again. Its owesome ?
Yes it does, nearly freaked out when my daughter dropped my husbands Ipad...had to give it a few good slaps but it came back on....on one problem we seem to have a green light background - any ideas anyone ?????
It does work!! My son dropped it pretty hard on the floor an the screen went black (with a bit of backlight). I tried to reset it, turn it off a few times and on again and nothing happened! Then I tried the "miracle" slap in the back and after a couple of increasingly harder slaps, it suddenly worked! Thanks for the great advice. My son was devastated and now I'll be his hero.
I Droped my ipad and screen went black, after a month i finally was about to buy LCD from ebay to replace it and right before that i google it and this help site came out.... Cant believe after i droped ipad 2 times it came to life again!!!
The reseting and turning off didn't work. So I said what the heck, tried dropping on carpet a few times that didn't work. Slapped on back a few times moving around back of Ipad several times. Then I tried again increasing harder and the white Apple appeared then my ipad came back up to my home screen. That's Amazing!! Thanks!!!
Aside from using apple configurator to place the device name on the lock screen, is there a way to do it remotely? I've found that I can add a Lock Screen Message through configuration profiles, but it looks like it would be the same message on all iPads. I'm trying to find a way to send a remote command either via Configuration Profile or some other method to get the device name to display on the lock screen. Anyone know if that's possible, and how?
I mean't more of a scenario where a device gets re-assigned to a new user, and it named accordingly. Also have this issue with the filtering software we use (lightspeed relay).. if the user of the device changes, you need to remove the profile and re-add it.
It does not happen often but when it does we put the device into lock mode "manually" as an action, then create a smart group (clone a template) of device serial number and last check in 1 day and check to email.
Seems to take a long time to push out to the device. I am using the configuration profile in a prestage enrollment. The device name doesn't change quickly, sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes or not all. The default is "iPad" and that name stays at the bottom of the Lock Screen for a very long time. Just spoke to tech apparently you have "Distribute to All" each time. Must be a minor bug.

Hello everyone . Unfortunately, I also suffer from this problem since I switched to an iPad Pro 2022 M2 -11 inch
And it really sucks. So far I have been working on the nomad on the Android Note Ulta device. And there it works perfectly without crashing almost at all and of course there are the problems with screen lighting that I experience on the newest iPad Pro. Please, if anyone here knows a practical solution to the problem, please share it with us
Are people really sculpting with everything turned on? I work in matcap mode 99% of the time, only turn on postprocess and full rendering for final renders. I can sculpt like this for quite a while on my various ipads.
Working just in matcaps increases FPS significantly, less comp operation needed. Only switching post process on gives already a decent fps drop.
Sure, the better the device, the less FPS drop, but still lots of GPU / CPU action turned into heat.
You can check by yourself under debug/log/options/performance.

I'm a longtime iPad owner. I've tried a couple of different protectors but preferred the original surface. Rock Paper Scissors is a game changer for me. I really appreciate the removable protector. I do a lot of reading and highlighting in Goodnotes and marking of scores in the forScore app. These tools really help me with that. I also really appreciate being able to remove the protector when consuming media.
Very happy with the purchase. The screen protector and the pencil tips make writing much more enjoyable on the iPad. They have also helped my penmanship a lot!! Highly recommend- since it is also very easy to remove if you are watching a movie or playing games.
