I just wanted to share some info with you on this topic.
The August 2007 issue of Scientific American has an article titled
"Attitude Screen" by Christine Soares (page 25) that talks about the
NHGRI year-long Multiplex study aimed at finding out whether people
are ready for "personal genomics." The part that I think is related to
our discussion in lecture #3 is about gathering information from
people on whether they are ready to manage their health based on the
findings of personalized genetic screenings which convey the idea of
risk associated with developing certain conditions but are less
concrete than current diagnosis. It would be interesting to know the
results of the study and what they plan to do next one way or the
other.
