Dear Neurospora fans,

We are writing those of you who have not sent their wild type genomic DNA preps for sequencing to Kathy as part of the community project to encourage them to do so now. For those attending the Asilomar meeting that want to bring their samples with them (preferably in Gentegra tubes) to the meeting, Kathy has graciously agreed to take them with her back to her lab.

The following is a reminder of the requirements:

1)            A genomic re-sequencing quality DNA prep (RNAse-treated). Specifically, the request is for a tube with about 1 µg gDNA in a volume of 25-50 microliters (final concentration range should be 10-1000ng/microliter). Please mark the tubes with the PI initials and the year the wild type strain was obtained (e.g., Oded Yarden’s will be marked OY2005).

Please adhere to the QC requirements set by the JGI at   https://jgi.doe.gov/user-programs/pmo-overview/project-materials-submission-overview/dna-sample-submission-guidelines/

You can send your samples to Kathy at this address:

One option for safer shipping of the samples (approved by the JGI) is using GenTegra tubes (https://gentegra.com/gentegra-dna-2/).

2) Please also provide the following information: year the strain was obtained, source of the strain, method of strain maintenance (e.g., -20, reculturing, silica gel etc.)

With best regards,

Oded Yarden, Kathy Borkovich, Luis Larrondo, Scott Baker and the FGSC
