Hello Neurospora Community,

The Neurospora Policy Committee is writing today to let everyone know of some sad news, as communicated to us from Jennifer Loros (and Jay Dunlap):

Jay and I heard from Rusty Bowman this morning.
Barry Bowman, Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Cruz, died Saturday May 9, 2026 at home surrounded by family.  Barry’s research, using the model system Neurospora crassa, spanned several decades and was broadly focused on understanding cellular compartments including vacuoles, the structure and distribution of organelles and vesicular trafficking, along with the important membrane-bound proteins required to maintain them.  This included a number of ATPases,  NADPH oxidases,  Rab GTPases and others.
He is survived by his wife and co-investigator, Dr. Emma Jean (Rusty) Bowman, his sister Dawn and other close family.
Jennifer

Please keep the Bowman Family in your thoughts and prayers, and we wish his family the best during this difficult time.

The NPC
