As you know, throughout the year NARSAD hosts free public meetings in
communities around the country, at which experts on mental disorders
share some of the latest developments in mental health research.
Now, in a major new initiative to reach more people who are concerned
about the toll that mental illness is taking on our families and
communities, NARSAD has organized Healthy Minds Across America, which
will feature nearly 50 free public forums across the United States and
in Canada, all taking place on Sunday, Sept. 14.
This day of events will provide an unprecedented opportunity for
people in large cities and small -- from Boston to San Francisco,
Montreal to Nashville and Ann Arbor to Houston -- to hear from leading
mental health experts about the state of mental health research
today.
The forums will take place at many of the universities and medical
centers where NARSAD has supported cutting-edge research over the past
20 years. Leading experts at these institutions will discuss the rapid
progress of mental health research over the past few decades and take
stock of what we know so far about the brain and its disorders, and
what we still need to learn about the causes and progression of major
mental illnesses. They will also discuss the growing array of
treatment options and what the future may hold in new treatments and
cures.
