I'd like to send an image to the factory to flash the devices before they ship, something with root and android marketplace, but not too funky a look if possible.

Thoughts?

If I understand correctly, until Jeremy releases its work, there is only the slatedroid firmware (or have I missed something?), which is a bit too funky and it doesn't support the camera. Personally I'd go with the factory default, so everyone can feel the differences wrt the first batch and then re-flash according to personal taste.

Haha. Right now there just isn't any firmware available which meets
that criteria. I am trying to sort some bugs in mine and get a couple
of things ironed out for my custom scripts. In either case if you
guys want I suppose I could release an alpha build for testing. I am
having an issue where the camera seems to be good to go and then it
decides to break after reboot so maybe I can get a little bit of
feedback from you guys. I also have the Google Apps installed, but
haven't had a chance to test whether market works correctly since my
wifi module is still disconnected. ;) Let me know if you want to be
guinea pigs and I will make sure to post something by tomorrow
morning.

@Fernando - There's no Ubuntu build, but you could go with debian! :D

O.k. here is a quick download I threw together. I wasn't sure I
wanted to release anything yet, but you can go ahead and grab it to
take a look. It's based on 1.9.1 but with 1.9.0 boot animation and
slightly modified scriptcmd, swap, root, google apps, and helix for
the launcher. Files for camera are there, but stopped showing up
after the last set of changes I made. I will try to sort it out
later. As mentioned before I don't have wifi connected in my tablet
right now so I was unable to test market and youtube. All feedback is
welcome.

That's odd, it seems to work  fine for me. Try starting at droidboots.com and navigating to downloads>eken firmware and download that way.

Hey everyone. Eken released a new firmware for these devices which is
being numbered 2.0. I have uploaded a "Plus" version to droidboots
which has root, swap enabled on boot, untested google apps, etc.

Here is the link for the thread on slatedroid:
http://www.slatedroid.com/eken-m002-firmware-development/8279-%5B-piece-software-flashed-device-expand-its-functionality%5D-m002s-2-0-plus.html

If you can't get the droidboots link there without registering then
here it is:
http://droidboots.com/http//droidboots.com/downloads/eken/M002S_2.0_Plus.7z

If you have trouble with the direct link then visit droidboots.com
directly and follow the menus through downloads -> Eken Firmware

Does it also have the market working out of the box?

Agreed. That is actually something I have been working on that's just
not ready for public exposure yet. Hopefully pretty soon though!

Yeah, my host shutdown the site on wednesday for high processor usage. I disabled downloads until I can determine what plugin caused it. Sorry. I will send you an email with FTP info.
