flash performance and the LINK

it's clear that flash playback performance on the LINK varies among users and I'm trying to isolate why.  It's clearly something beyond individual bandwidth issues as even rudimentary testing shows.  Sometimes playback is choppy, other times its virtually perfect.  I've also noticed that the audio volume of the LINK varies considerably with different versions of the software if that gives any clues.  Sometimes its normal, with more recently versions of the software the link is so quiet you have to turn the tv/reciever volume practically all the way up.

So basically I've undertaken to test the effects of the various software configs in a controlled environment to isolate the issue (and the solution).  I fix the hardware, Internet/network, television, etc and just swap out packages:

xserver-xorg-video-ati,
xserver-xorg-video-radeon,
catalyst version:  fglrx-amdcccle
flashplugin-nonfree

are there other packages I should be testing?  Other parameters?   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I've noticed flash sucks a lot (video is very choppy) when the LINK boots
up and gets the resolution wrong for my tv. When that happens, I think
something in the pipeline is spending cycles scaling. If I then go fiddle
with the ATI catylist application, I can get it so that flash isn't
choppy. I've been doing my testing with hulu--haven't tried other flash
sites.

As a side note, I've had this resolution-detection problem with both
Neuros LINKs I've worked with--the one I had back in May and the one I got
in August. I've got a Samsung 450 Series 4 32" tv (720p).

Joe, I'm happy to spend some time pulling up more information if you point
me to what you need and how to get it. I'm usually on IRC in #neuros as
willkg.
