Dear Dr. Caparo,
Please note that the samples of your patients (R.L.M.), (M.D.F.), and (P.Z.J.) are negative for antibodies to cell surface neuronal antigens including NMDA, AMPA, GABA(B), mGluR1, and mGluR5 receptors. Antibodies to LGI1 and Caspr2 (previously attributed to VGKC) were also determined to be negative. We did not examine the samples for antibodies to intracellular neuronal antigens that are commercially available.
Sincerely,
Lindsey McCracken

Dear Dr. Caparo,
Please note that the samples of your patient (H.M.J.) are POSITIVE for anti-NMDA receptor antibodies.
In order to get a prospective look at patients and the disease course, we will be contacting you every six months or so to obtain an update. You may also send us updates more frequently, particularly if symptoms change or there is concern of relapse. If you do not anticipate following this patient 6 months from now please provide us with contact information of another physician involved in this patient’s care.
We are extremely appreciative in your willingness to assist in this effort, and look forward to hearing from you.
Penn has recently launched the Center for Autoimmune Neurology for outpatient care of patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis and similar diseases. If you are interested in referring a patient, please feel free to contact me.
