Initial progress was cut short by the winter of 2019, followed by the pandemic. While some people used the lockdown to enjoy new hobbies and benefit from the furlough scheme, I spent most of my time keeping the freelance fires burning. I was lucky to have supportive commissioning editors; others in the industry were less fortunate.

Some tasks were less painful than others. Replacing the alternator was surprisingly straightforward after following a YouTube tutorial, even if the over-tightening of a bolt necessitated the sourcing of an obsolete part. I took the opportunity to purchase a new belt tensioner from Peugeot, an expensive but worthwhile investment.

At the opposite end of the pain spectrum, removing the oil filter caused almost as much grief as the brakes. Having tried all the tricks in the book, on the advice of Kenny Smith I purchased an Irwin Vise-Grip heavy-duty locking chain clamp. It made mincemeat of the task, catapulting it to the top of the list of my favourite tools.

Made me feel quite sad reading this. I am in the process of selling my husbands 406 3.0 coupe on his passing last year. He has owned it since new. No MOT and electrical problems. I am not a mechanic or electrician so have to pass on. Hopefully to someone who will restore him. It took us all over the uk and Europe over the years. Brill car. If I could find someone to fix it I may be tempted to keep. Nice to hear that the coupe lives on.

I have a red Peugeot 406 V6 (2000) Coupe which I have owned from new. It only failed its M.O.T, on one occasion and broke down once. I use it every day. It is still very beautiful with the black leather interior in perfect condition. I had a complete respray three years ago due to the lacquer becoming brittle and peeling. The problem is now getting replacement parts. I had to have an exhaust specially made. I still lover this car.

Should Peugeot offer one? More importantly, is it going to be a compelling choice in the niche midsize coupe segment? One can only imagine, and that's what X-Tomi Design exactly did with its latest rendering.

If ever this fictional coupe ever became a reality, Peugeot will likely offer the same powertrain options for the model. These options range from the base turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 130 horsepower (97 kilowatts), up to the top-spec hybrid powertrain that delivers a combined output of 360 hp (268 kW) to both axles. This setup is found in the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE).

The Peugeot RCZ is a car designed by French marque Peugeot and assembled in Austria by Magna Steyr from 2009 until 2015. It is a sports coup with a 2+2 seating layout and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. This car was officially presented in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The RCZ won numerous awards, the most important of which are five times the best sports car award by Diesel Car magazine and the 2010 coupe award by Top Gear.[according to whom?]

The vehicle was showcased as the 308 RCZ concept car at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.[4] The RCZ was developed as a showcase concept car but after receiving considerable critical acclaim, Peugeot put the RCZ into production, retaining much from the concept. The RCZ has a double-bubble roof inspired by Zagato.[5]

The RCZ was formally introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2009 and launched into production late 2009.[6] The vehicle available in almost 80 countries as of 2013[update].[7] Petrol engines are based on Prince series while diesel is part of the HDi series. The RCZ was developed under code name "T75".[8]

The 30,000th RCZ was assembled in June 2011.[9] The 50,000th RCZ was built on 14 February 2013 and was painted red. After a production period of almost six years, the last Peugeot RCZ was assembled in the Magna Steyr Graz plant in September 2015.[10]

The RCZ offered optional electric heated and adjustable seating with driver's memory, leather seats and dashboard and hill assist function. Other options include 19-inch alloy wheels and a JBL sound system. An Elan or Sportif Kit option pack could be selected to change the colour finish of the roof, door mirrors and front grille.[citation needed] While the RCZ has rear seats, they are not large enough for adults to sit comfortably in.[12][3]

The RCZ Brownstone is a limited edition available exclusively in Germany in metallic brown paint with silver racing stripes. Inside, the special version is finished in brown, with Cohiba leather and Alcantara trim.[19]

The RCZ Magnetic is available exclusively in the UK, with production limited to 170 units. Models are available in pearlescent black with Flame Red leather sports seats or white with black leather sports seats, with matte black roof arches and a black grille, brake calipers and door mirrors. They also feature a soft touch leather sports steering wheel and a short shift gear lever.[20]

The RCZ Raidillon is available in Belgium and Luxembourg with production limited to 55 pieces. The stylish metal colour Guaranja Brown is unique to this version. Inside, the Cohiba Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery has additional embroidery "Raidillon" lettering in the backrest.

The Peugeot RCZ received the Top Gear '2010 Coupe of the Year award',[21] three times in a row the Auto Express 'Best Coup of the Year',[22][23][24] the Auto Express readers 'Special Design Award 2010'[25] and the 'Best of the Best' Red Dot Award for its design.[26] From 2010 to 2014, the Peugeot RCZ has been awarded five successive times 'Best Sports Car' by Diesel Car magazine.[27] According to Ian Robertson, editor of DieselCar: 'The Peugeot RCZ offers a rewarding driving experience, agile handling and a well sorted ride, and frugal diesel power. It really is the icing on the cake for the sexily styled sports coup'. Matt Saunders of Autocar compared the RCZ R favorably to its rivals, describing the Audi TT as 'dull to drive and quite aged now', and the Mini Coup JCW 1.6 as 'nowhere near as finessed as the Peugeot.'[28]

A modified version of the RCZ is used in the Peugeot RCZ Racing Cup Italy one make race. The car used is known as the RCZ Peugeot Sport, which features an increased power output from 200 to 250 bhp, uprated brakes and an adjustable rear spoiler amongst standard motorsport preparations such as weight reduction and a roll cage.[29] Racing versions of the RCZ have also competed successfully in the 24 Hours of Nrburgring, claiming class victories with diesel based variants in 2010 and 2011 and with the RCZ Peugeot Sport in 2012.[30]

But the real star of the dynamic show is the chassis, without a doubt. The 406 comes from a time when Peugeot chassis engineers were at the very top of their game when it came to ride/handling balance and it definitely shows, especially on roads like ours. The coupe remains composed and comfortable no matter what the surface is, enabling you to make serious pace without worrying too much about what the road is like. The ride is quite as soft as, say, a 404 or 505, but I can live with that because in return you get handling that is very buttoned down with excellent body control. I have yet to find a corner that needed serious slowing down for, and the car just flows through at whatever pace takes your fancy. On paper, figures might not be remarkable, but on a real-world winding road, this car is capable of keeping up with much faster machinery.

The values in Australia are quite surprising, I thought these were still regarded as cheap old cars in most places because they made quite a few of them. That certainly still seems to be the case in the UK, but even there prices seem to creeping up as the bad examples get scrapped.

Ive noticed automakers sometimes refresh the look of an existing model with some of the style of an upcoming replacement. Like to help us with the transition or something. The bigger grille/mouthed 406 was a bad omen to what came next.

From what I understand, Pininfarina pitched for the Fiat Coupe design, in competition with Fiat Centro Stile. Fiat management ended up picking the rather more striking (by Chris Bangle) in house design but gave Pininfarina responsibility for producing them, hence the badge it wore.

Gorgeous looking coupes these, and one would look great in our driveway to keep our 308 and 508 company. They were sold new here in New Zealand, and there are still a few around (I passed one last week) so your friend will have been able to buy another one if he wanted to!

I am about to pick up a 406 1.8 manual saloon from 2002. Although sedans and outsold the coupe many times over, the two door predominates on the Danish used car market. Reason`? The sedans and only sedans are exported to N Africa. That leaves the residual coups and the estate cars left. I can only say that the 406, in any guise, is a rather durable car akin to the Mercedes W-123 in banality and longevity.

Back in the early '70s, Peugeot was competing against the growing German auto industry and produced the 504 Coupe as a personal luxury coupe. As a result, it could offer everything that other premium carmakers did. Still, the French automaker understood that it had to adapt. As a result, it provided a more powerful version and included some visual changes to the car to keep its look fresh on the market.

Working together with the Italian coach manufacturer Pininfarina was a very good idea. Thus, even though it shared its underpinnings with the 504 sedan, it looked very different. Its long hood and the cab-rearward design were on par with the German coupes from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, just better. For the 1974 model, the refreshed version featured a new front fascia with rectangular, horizontal headlights. The slim chromed bumper was adorned with a rubber strip that crossed it from one end to the other. From its profile, the '74 model year revealed its chromed, flush door handles. Finally, at the back, the carmaker added a different set of taillights with a rectangular design instead of the three tilted lamps fitted on its predecessor.
