When your business needs change, or you want more features, you can change to a different Microsoft 365 for business plan. Most of the time, you can change plans automatically. An automatic change walks you through the entire process from beginning to end. After you buy a new plan, all users are automatically assigned licenses in the new plan, and your old plan is canceled for you. In some cases, you can't automatically change to a new plan, and instead must change plans manually.

Changing plans is the right choice when you want to move all users assigned to a single plan. When you change plans, all users in the current plan are assigned licenses for the new plan at the same time. If you only want to move some users to a new plan, buy a new plan with the number of licenses you need, and assign those licenses to the users that you want to move. If you can't select the View upgrades recommended for your org link, it means that you can't automatically change your plan right now. In some cases, you can resolve the issue so that you can view available plans. In other cases, you can change plans manually, instead. The following table lists issues you might encounter when you try to change your plan, and tells how to resolve them.

The day your plan change is complete, the billing on your old subscription is turned off and the billing on your new subscription is turned on. Depending on the new plan you selected, you might receive a prorated credit. You receive a new invoice that includes the credit for your old subscription within 30 days of changing to the new subscription.

If you're changing to a plan with fewer data-related services than your current plan, you must manually back up any data that you want to keep. For more information, see Back up data before changing Microsoft 365 for business plans.

Make sure that you buy a subscription for the same organization that the users are in now. For example, check the email addresses for the users that you want to move. If their email addresses include @contoso.com, you must buy a new subscription for contoso.com. Buy a license for each user that you want to move.

If you bought two subscriptions and they aren't both listed on the Your products page, you might have bought them for different organizations (for different domains). Subscriptions can't cross organization boundaries.

If you have an MCA billing account type, you can only cancel and receive a prorated credit or refund if you cancel within seven days after the start or renewal of your subscription. If you cancel during this limited time window, the prorated amount is either credited towards your next invoice or returned to you in the next billing cycle. I just wasted 45 mins online with an agent. Tried to upgrade my account. After all that you can't upgrade your account via DROPBOX sales agent because I signed up via via Google play store. So went to google play store and I can't upgrade my account via playstore! Gone back and forth and back and forth with the agent to get nowhere. Asked if I could call someone for direction, have to go via email! Was told I need to upgrade to a business plan to make a call. Can't upgrade to a business plan for direct support because I pay for DROPBOX via playstore. Surely a big tech company can do better and make upgrading which is essentially volunteering to pay MORE for your service easier! ... No way to upgrade my service without spending more time on a service call and wasting more time. Very very irritating. Maybe you want to fix that!

No, not yet. They told me I have to cancel my Google account, wait til my next billing cycle where my storage drops significantly, then sign up again?? Doesn't seem like I can cancel and immediately sign up again. Of course I am worried about my files because my storage is larger than the basic plan. I have been told "not to worry about it" but I worry if a tech company can't figure out the most basic thing that actually increases their revenue seamlessly.

Paid via Google play store. Don't ask me how that happened, I think I just added it as a payment method as I have had DROPBOX before the google playstore payment method was added so somehow my account has switched to Google Play store. I spent a ridiculous amount of time online with an agent who should have been able to tell me that I can't upgrade immediately.

Surely you have a seamless way to change from Google Play to dropbox itself? Surely I don't have to set my calendar to remember the exact day and time my Google subscription ends so I can sign up again? If I have to wait until my plan expires and my storage is over basic how can I be sure I am not going to lose my info or be compromised!

I sincerely hope DROPBBOX finds a seamless way to resolve this so that users who find out the hard way that they are on a "one way street" via DROPBOX Google Playstore can switch effortlessly! If not, they should be flagged in big letters not in tiny fine print (if its there) on page 80 of a user contract.
