Ihave two WiFi pineapples, both have the same issues. When I connect them I see "Identifying unknown network... " on the screen and the LEDs blinking, and then seconds later "Disconnected" again and the LEDs go dark. Then the loop starts again. I'm never able to browse the setup site. I tried a factory reset without result. I also tried to power it with an external charger and I tried it on different computers.
I am having same exact problem. Won't connect on either linux, android or win 10 out of the box with everything that came in the box. It is almost as if hak5 hasn't made quality stuff here and a lot of their devices are defective.
I was having this same issue; Flickering yellow light then blue and reboot.
I have an aftermarket power adaptor which clearly isn't doing the job on it's own. And the USB Y cable also wasn't able to deliver enough power on it's own either. So I've plugged both in and then got a solid blue
Also as another clue on my linux machines the USB network adaptor was constantly and immediately connecting/disconnecting.
Same exact problem here. Out of the box device won't connect to linux, windows or android. I have messaged support at hak5 like literally 5 times and got one responds weeks later giving me some instructions on how to manually set the IP but when I did that and tried to navigate to it it still wouldn't connect. Really disappointing to see this device doesn't work and whats worse is HAK5 don't even seam to care or get back to you on support. I essentially have a $200 brick. Really like their products but very hesitant to spend any more money when I don't even get help for this defective one.
I gave this to tech support in tickets heaps of times. No response back. Linux mint 19.1, windows 10, kali linux newest version, android latest version. Tried connecting device with provided usb, different usb, different power cable, issued power cable, using only usb cable and trying with both usb and power cable connected. After using ifconfig ethx down then setting the ip manually the device then connects and shows up in ifconfig with the set ip of 172.16.42.42 that was manually put in but trying to navigate to the ip or 172.16.42.1 as in the tutorial on setup and it can't find host. ping 172.16.42.42 get response but on 172.16.42.1 no response. Run nmap on 172.16.42.42 and it comes back as host down and won't show any ports open.
I am at a loss as to why this device won't connect even for basic setup. I suspect the device is actually faulty.
Any help you can provide is much appreciated. Thankyou.

What is your output of "ifconfig" after connecting the usb cable before changing any address settings? Posting the output will help figure out if the system is actually seeing the tetra. As the setup instructions show -us/articles/360010555313-Setup-Basics most systems for basic setup don't need a static IP assigned as the tetra will assign one (there are times it is required but would try without doing so first).
I am connecting it up exactly as described in the setup tutorials.
I have tried usb power witht eh duel usb cable on its own and with the 12v power adapter supplied. I even used other adapters. I power cycle the tetra and when it reconnects it automatically reassigns it that same IP I set. I tried to wirelessly connect to pineapple also with no luck.
Yes I am using the eth 1 port on the back. I have used usb cable and 12v adapter together, usb on its own and alternate usb with adapter and even different adapter. All no luck. The tetra doesn't automatically assign and IP for me. It just continually loops with ''connecting'' then ''could not connect'' then repeating that loop indefinitely.
you sir...are a genius! I did the firmware recovery and it was taking forever to finish so I opened my phone and tried to connect wirelessly to the pineapple and it worked! The setup screen came up for the first time! When I unplugged the pineapple and stuck it back in it connected pretty much straight away and even assigned its own IP and would now come up automatically with a netmask. Maybe the netmask was the problem? Anyway I finished the setup and can now use the pineapple although I can't connect to the open wifi for some reason but can connect to the management wifi connection and remote manage.
So this looks like it might be a fix for everyone else too so can we spread the word or get others to try it to see if it works for them too?
I'm trying this in Win10 just to get it running. When I get to the part about the ip address change, is it just the standard wifi connection my pc has in network options? Or should it be showing up as a different connection?
On Windows 10, been working with my Tetra (had ICS working). Today when I connected the Tetra to my computer (USB eth1 to my USB port) I got a pop-up error: USB device not recognized. Last USB device connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.
FWIW mine is now recognized in WIndoze 10. While I had my Pineapple plugged in via USB, I did a Windoze update (I knew I had updates coming) and it magically works for me now. I have yet to work with it in Linux.
After trying numerous USB cables, I found the original Y cable provided with the device, and it appears the device is recognised with this cable? Is there anything particularly special about this cable, excluding the obvious?
I'm also getting the same issue on my freshly reset Tetra - same story on three different devices (Linux, Mac, Windows). The device is unrecognised, and the last message in the syslog is"unable to enumerate USB device". The UART port on the second USB port works fine and is recognised. This device definitely previously worked on 2.4.2, however I'm running out of options now.
This is extremely frustrating. I took a huge Windows 10 Update last week, not the Realtec driver is unrecognized. I tried updating the driver. I tried downgrading. It appears I am out of luck sharing my windows machine and the pineapple.
I am having the problem of my tetra not being recognised by either win 10, linux or android. Just will not connect or be recognized. Have no idea what to do. Have tried to contact tech support numerous times with no real response.
Fun times. Have a new Tetra. Updated to 2.6.2 and it worked fine for about a week. Then eth1 failed to connect to both my Win10 and Kali boxes. Fun times. Win 10 says unrecognized USB device. Installed the realtek drivers from their site, nothing. With the unit plugged in did a Windows 10 update (running 1903). Nothing. Tried several different cables on the 2 machines, including the one provided with the Tetra, no go (because obviously it's a cable issue, and can't be a hardware or firmware issue).
With the Tetra in the factory image mode (no power, press reset, power while holding reset for 10 seconds), no connection via eth1, nor the uart (Linux dmesg grep tty returns: usb 1-2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0) screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 brings up a blank screen, pressing enter several times results in no activity.
What antenna do you use? What is the dBi on the stock antenna (I did not see it on the product page). I prefer omni, but I was told if you want distance, you need a directional antenna. I'm open to suggestions..
An alfa would be the best first upgrade IMHO. That 3rd ap features is great, the increase in backhaul in client mode will make your APs stronger. Of course if you are tethering thats going to be best case scenario for a high throughput. I think it comes with a 5dbi or 6db which scan and is my default with the stock antenna. But those are out of stock in the hakshop.
Yagis are super at being directed at a target. So attaching this to an alfa, can get you client mode from an AP on wlan2 for 4+miles on a nice day. However there is a fluctuation in the wavelength and that will be apparent in increased latency over distance.
With the front (LED side) of the WiFi Pineapple TETRA facing you, the two antennas on the left are wlan0 and the two on the right are wlan1. Another way to put look at it is that the two wlan0 antennas are closest to the RJ45 Ethernet port while the two wlan1 antennas are closest to the Reset button. Both radios are in a diversity configuration by default and ship with dual-band antennas.
Just bought 2 Alfa 9dBi WiFi Booster SMA OMNI-Directional High-Gain from amazon and should get them tomorrow. I was a little confused on what 2 I need to replace for wlan1 (The attacking and monitor set of antennas).
I got one of these (TP-LINK TL-ANT2414A 2.4GHz 14dBi Outdoor Directional Antenna) some time back and tried it out my Tetra and the range actually seemed worse. I know its directional so that may have been the trouble, or maybe I attached it to the wrong connector? My purpose was to increase PineAP created AP range... would I need to use 2 for it to work?
