Thereare typically multiple County-sponsored shredding events each year; in the Spring (in April) and Fall (in October). Think before you shred--residents are asked to ONLY bring items that contain personal information. Junk mail, catalogs and office paper can be recycled with your curbside recycling collection.

Office Depot and Staples offer shredding services for a small fee. This is a convenient option for many residents to get those sensitive documents shredded securely. Also keep your eyes out for community and bank sponsored events which happen throughout the year.

If you shred at home, please be sure to place shredded paper in a paper bag (no plastic) before you add it to your recycling bin. Why? Loose shredded paper is like confetti and will make a mess at the recycling processor.

With our popular bulk paper shredding service, you can purge a large amount of sensitive documents: onsite while you watch, or picked up by Iron Mountain and destroyed offsite at one of our many secure shredding facilities.

If you consistently produce confidential or sensitive documents, or need to maintain compliance with current data laws and regulations, recurring shredding is available on your schedule, at your convenience. Let us help you stay compliant for HIPAA, FACTA, GLB, and SOX.

With shredding services available at The UPS Store locations nationwide, you can get rid of your personal and business documents using one of the leading document destruction vendors, Iron Mountain. Shred your items to help protect yourself and your business from identity theft.

Confidential materials include: tax records, medical records, bank & credit card statements, and any document displaying a social security number or financial account number. This is information that someone could use to steal your identity and/or money.

Any type of open-top box is preferred (e.g., cardboard box, plastic tub or tote, laundry basket, etc.). We will give you your containers back - please understand that we need to keep the line moving, so we don't have time to flatten cardboard boxes. Please make sure each box weighs no more than 40lbs. Small quantities can come in paper bags. Please no plastic bags.

You may need to join a queue when you pull into the event site - our shredding events are often popular! Please pay attention to all event personnel directing traffic and all event signs. Please stay in your vehicle except to use the Pit Stop (northeast corner of the front parking lot).

DO NOT PUT IN CURBSIDE RECYCLING BIN: Paper that has already been shredded is not recyclable in the curbside recycling programs because it creates a major problem at sorting facilities.

SHRED JUDICIOUSLY: Best practice if you want to shred your own confidential material is to tear off the portion of the page that contains the confidential information and shred that and then recycle the rest of the sheet whole in your curbside recycling program.

In October 2011, DARPA (Defense Advance Research Projects Agency) decided to run a competition for computer scientists. The competition had a prize of $50,000 for the team that could be the first to develop software that would visually piece together 5 documents that had been shredded by a paper shredder. An astonishing 9,000 teams applied for the Dapra Shredder Challenge, but 1 winner was crowned just 2 days before the end date of the challenge.

A San Francisco team made up of 3 computer programers won the prize in December 2011. The team called All Your Shreds Are Belong To U.S was made up of the friends Otavio Good, Luke Alonso and Keith Walker. Their winning algorithm was able to separate and piece together the 5 sheets of jumbled together, shredded paper, using a number of techniques such as marks on a page, fold marks and rips.

Do not place shredded paper in your in your blue recycling cart. For disposal, seal the shredded paper in a paper or plastic bag and place in your trash cart. This prevents the shredded paper from becoming litter. Shredded paper may be composted or vermi-composted in a worm bin. Check out the City of Santa Cruz Home Composting $40 Rebate Program to get started composting.

Shredding a piece of paper shortens its fibers, which limits its recycling potential and reduces its value. Shredded paper is too small to be processed by some recyclers. It slips through sorting machinery onto the facility floor, where it gets swept up as trash.

Shredded paper placed in a clear plastic bag can be placed in the recycling bin. This is the only type of clear plastic bags allowed in the recycling bin. Loose shredded paper is not allowed in the recycling bin.

Tip: Instead of shredding an entire document, shred only the parts that contain private information. If protected info is removed and shredded, the rest of the document can be recycled. You might also consider an ID Blocking Ink Roller that blocks out personal information, then put in the recycle bin.

Shredded paper is not permitted in your blue recycling cart, at the Middletown Recycling Center, nor at any of our Satellite Recycling Centers. Residential shredded paper must be placed in the garbage.

County residents may shred up to 100 pounds, which is equivalent to four office paper boxes or four large-sized trash bags. All papers will be shredded on location in the mobile trucks and the event will end once the mobile trucks are full or its scheduled end time. Large binder clips must be removed from documents; staples and paper clips can remain.

This program is hosted by the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners and the participating municipalities: Allenhurst, Atlantic Highlands, Bradley Beach, Brielle, Colts Neck, Fair Haven, Freehold Twp., Hazlet, Long Branch, Marlboro, Matawan, Middletown, Millstone, Neptune Twp., Oceanport, and Shrewsbury Boro.

KCB Coppell sponsors shredding for our residents twice yearly! We pair shredding with our EcoCoppell Earthfest celebration in April and in November to celebrate America Recycles day. Residents are invited to stop by the City of Coppell Service Center where a shredding truck will be present to safely shred documents on site. Up to four boxes can be dropped off (maximum size of each box being 9 by 12 by 17 inches, or the size of a bankers box) per person, per event. All shredded paper will be recycled and your container will be returned to you. Residents are encouraged to come early to ensure space in the truck for their documents.

Keep Coppell Beautiful offers subsidized compost bins to be sold to both Coppell residents and non-residents. These compost bins are made of a mesh wire material with a mesh wire chimney insert for air circulation, their dimensions are 4 feet by 4 feet. Compost bins can be purchased online. Once your online order is complete, please email the KCB team a receipt of your purchase to schedule a pickup time and day of your compost bin.

Take an active role in cleaning up Coppell streets, parks, and neighborhoods! This year around program, encourages community groups from all around town come together to do litter cleanups and beautification projects.
