HTML5 is the latest and most enhanced version of HTML. Technically, HTML is not a programming language, but rather a markup language. In this tutorial, we will discuss the features of HTML5 and how to use it in practice.

Laracasts is a massive source of screencasts or video tutorials that record the screen and show you everything the teacher is doing. There are hundreds of PHP lessons here and the entire beginner course is free. For $15/month you can access all the premium lessons.
This particular tutorial, titled Introduction to HTML, is a very basic introduction to Hypertext Markup Language. If you're interested in publishing on the Web, you really need to know what HTML is and how it works.
It should be noted that HTML5 is an official standard as of October 2014, so everything here is somewhat outmoded, though basic principles may remain relevant. This tutorial is geared toward the latest version of HTML at the time of its creation, which was HTML 4.01. It appeared for a while that this would be the final version of HTML, with all further development occuring in XHTML. (You may wish to examine our Introduction to XHTML, which assumes a basic working knowledge of HTML. If you are new to HTML, you will still want to work through this tutorial first.) However, in webworks the HTML/Javascript files reside on the device and are separated from any php file so I need a method to communicate to get the data from the database. I have looked through JSON and read all the tutorials on w3schools and I understand the syntax but I don't understand how to use it. How could it connect to a database? My aim is to simply display the table entries on a mobile device app running HTML5 webworks. Again I am very new to this so any explanation would be very helpful.
I introduced the unit with KWL. They were given post-its to write down their responses to the K and W. We made a chart and put it up on the board. Then we went through the basic tags and created a sample webpage. Students were instructed to go to and read the tutorials.
They did the "Try it "with every example. I gave them a rubric to use for creating their own website with required tags. I gave extra credit for those who could incorporate CSS. We will have a gallery walk at the end of the lesson and then to close it out we picked up the L from the KWL chart that we prepared.
