Hello NetworkX Community,

I hope everyone is doing well. My name is Vatsh, a Mechanical Engineering student from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. I’m excited to join the NetworkX community as I gear up for my GSoC25 application, particularly for the Pedagogical Interactive Notebooks for Algorithms project.

My technical background includes Python, C++, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Django. Although I’m relatively new to open-source work, my enthusiasm for learning and contributing is high. I believe that developing interactive Jupyter notebooks to illustrate and experiment with network algorithms will not only simplify complex concepts but also enrich the learning experience for the community.

I’m aware that I’m reaching out with only few days remaining before the student application period starts. Despite the tight timeline, I’m fully committed to ramping up quickly and making a meaningful contribution. I’d love to hear any advice or suggestions on how to best begin, especially regarding project scope and initial tasks.

Thank you for your time and for welcoming newcomers like me. I look forward to your guidance and to collaborating with you all!

Best regards,
Vatsh

Hi Vatsh,

I hope you’re doing well. My name is Tianming, and I’m currently a student at a U.S. tech school. I’ve always wanted to contribute to open source but haven’t been sure where to start. Your post about the Pedagogical Interactive Notebooks for Algorithms project caught my attention, and I was wondering if you’d be interested in teaming up.

I graduated from UCSB as a physics major last year, and I’m particularly interested in percolation and the small-world effect on networks. I’d love to collaborate on creating compelling demonstrations using NetworkX, which could enhance the nx-guide and make it more comprehensive.

I’m not very familiar with GSoC25 or whether it allows team submissions, but regardless, I’d appreciate having a peer to keep me accountable and share ideas with. If you’re open to it, we could discuss this further on Discord or any platform you prefer.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best regards,
Tianming

Hi Tianming,

It’s great to hear from you! I really appreciate your interest in the Pedagogical Interactive Notebooks for Algorithms project. Your background in physics and network science sounds like a fantastic fit, especially with your focus on percolation and the small-world effect. Using NetworkX to create compelling demonstrations for these concepts would definitely enhance the nx-guide and make it more engaging for learners.

I’m also new to open source, but I’d love to team up to exchange ideas and keep each other accountable throughout the process. Regarding GSoC, as far as I know, it only allows individual applications, but that doesn’t mean we can’t collaborate and support each other.

I’d be happy to continue this discussion on Discord or any platform you prefer. Let me know what works best for you! Looking forward to brainstorming ideas together.

Best,
Vatsh
