Our plan is to continue this journal club into the summer. (You may
want to unsubscribe from the list if you don't wanted to be bugged
during the summer.)

We will be meeting tomorrow, May 19, at 10 am to have a general
discussion. We'll meet on the other side of Washington Avenue this
time, in 6-122 NHH (Nils Hasselmo Hall) and move to a larger room if
need be.

Duane:

Here are the references to the segregation phenomena
in granular media (it sounds better than
"sandpiles" when talking to funding agencies) I talked
about Wednesday.

The Resource Letter is an annotated bibliography to the literature.

"Reversible Axial Segregation of Binary Mixtures of Granular Materials", K.
M. Hill and J. Kakalios, Phys. Rev. E 49, R3610 (1994).

"Reversible Axial Segregation of Rotating Granular Media", K. M. Hill and
J. Kakalios, Phys. Rev. E 52, 4393 (1995).

"Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Axial Segregation of Granular Media", K. M.
Hill, J. Kakalios and A. Caprihan, Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 50 (1997).

“Phase Diagram for Avalanche Segregation of Granular Media”, J. Koeppe,
M. Enz and J. Kakalios, Phys. Rev. E 58, R4104 (1998).

“Dynamic Angle of Repose as a Function of Mixture Concentration: Results
from MRI Experiments and DEM Simulations”, K. M. Hill, J. Kakalios, K.
Yamane, Y. Tsuji and A. Caprihan, Proceedings of ‘Powders and Grains
97’, (A. A. Balkema, Rotterdam) 483 (1997).

“Granular Physics or Nonlinear Dynamics in a Sandbox”, J. Kakalios,
Resource Letter GP-1, American Journal of Physics 73, 8 (2005).

Enjoy!

Prof. Nykamp,

No bugging at all. I just want to be informed
on what everyone has been discussing.
Yes, I'm spending my time writing the paper now.

Have a nice weekend,
Joe.

The next network journal club meeting with be this coming Tuesday, at
2 pm. We'll meet at 202 Vincent and then move to a larger room if
necessary.

We'll discuss the paper "Random graphs with clustering" by Mark
Newman. It's in the file section of the journal club, or you can get
it at http://arxiv.org/abs/0903.4009

A generalized version of the same idea is "Random graphs containing
arbitrary distributions of subgraphs" by Brian Karrer and Mark
Newman. Also in the files section or at http://arxiv.org/abs/1005.1659

We'll probably stick with the first one, but the second one is a good
backup if you want to see what more one can do with this approach.

Due to an unanticipated conflict, let's postpone this meeting to
Thursday. Same time, same place.
