The Network Journal club will meet in Vincent 209 on Fridays at 3:35.

For the first meeting, we will be discussing the Watts and Strogatz
paper (presented by Tay Netoff) and the Barabási and Albert paper
(presented by me). Please come to the meeting having read these two
papers and prepared to discuss them. The papers can be found in the
files section of this group.

If you have any questions or comments about the papers, you can always
post them in the discussion of the group.

See you tomorrow!

Hi prof. Nykamp,

I wonder about the papers we should read
for tomorrow. Can you send me the link/
attachment again?

I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks,
Joe.

I got it,

Sorry about it. I'm not used to
the setup.

Thanks,
Joe.

On Friday, Oct 2, we will begin the long Boccaletti et al. review
paper, covering sections 1 and 2. The paper is in the Files section
of the group.

Greetings,
What room will we be meeting in?

Does that room have a projector?

Thanks,
bryce

We are in Vincent 209. It does have a projector.

Tomorrow, Friday, October 9, we will continue discussing the
Boccaletti paper, starting with section 2.2.

Just a reminder that there will be no journal club meeting this week, as
quite a few of us will be gone for a conference.

Just as well - as I'm out of town this Friday,
and a late conference call made me miss last week. Did not
want to skip two in a row.

Today we will finish discussion of the Boccaletti paper, ending with
section 2. We'll pick another paper for next week.

We meet in Vincent 209 at 3:35.

This Friday, November 6, we will go over the Sporns paper that we did
not get to last time and then discuss the Netoff paper on epilepsy in
small world networks. Both files are available on the journal club
site.

Duane:

I forgot my copy of the paper, and can't seem to find the link to the
journal
club site.

Could you send either today's paper or the link?

Much thanks,

Jim K.

This Friday, November 13, Tay will lead a discussion on his paper on
epilepsy in small world networks, since we didn't get to it last week.

This Friday, November 20, Jeremy will lead a on discussion on the
Strogatz review of the Kuramoto model, looking at synchronization of
coupled oscillators.

S.H. Strogatz. From Kuramoto to Crawford: exploring the onset of
synchronization in populations of coupled oscillators.
Physica D, 143, 1–20, 2000.

The articles is available in the files section.
It's a long article, so we'll probably focus on the first half.

This Friday, December 4, Michael and Max will lead the discussion on a
paper about the emergence of synchrony in heterogeneous networks. You
can think of this as a generalization of the Kuramoto model we talked
about last time.

J.G. Restrepo, E. Ott, and B.R. Hunt. Emergence of coherence in
complex networks of heterogeneous dynamical systems, Phys Rev Lett.
96, 254103, 2006.

The article is available in the files section. It's only four papers
long (as it is in Physical Review Letters). But it might take you
awhile to read through it (as it is in Physical Review Letters).

I also put a longer version of the Restrepo paper up on the web site.
So you can read the short PRL article I mentioned before, or the longer
Physica D article, which may be easier to read.

Let's cancel tomorrow's meeting. We can meet next week (for those not
embroiled in final exams).
