I'm constantly looking for stories about the Tea Party movement on Google. However, the infighting between GOP groups last fall was a real turn off (Some gal named "Amy" who thought she was hot stuff left one group and went to another, etc.). I had pretty much stayed away from the Tea Party scene because of that and the bickering I had heard early in 2009 on my former BTR station where Tea Party "leaders" held a boring, weekly "National Conference Call".
All this changed for me when, on January 6th, TeaParty.org President Dale Robertson put out a warning in a press release to the Florida GOP and the RNC to back conservative candidates or risk losing Tea Party support in the all-important November elections!
That night, I did a Google search of Dale (who I had never seen or heard of) and found a video interview he had done with C-span the day after the March on D.C. last September. I watched that interview and realized that I could trust him completely, that he meant every word he said, that he was totally dedicated to getting Constitutionally conservative candidates elected.
The following week, I contacted Dale and I invited him on my mostly FM talk show at The Micro Effect on January 15th. He was a wonderful Guest. I'm still learning about the movement and if I have any questions, I know I'll get the straight and narrow from Dale. The fact that he works with Steve Eichler impressed me as I knew about Steve from Jim Gilchrist, founder of The Minutemen. The rest is history, but I should mention that I haven't stopped asking Dale questions in an effort to find out all I can about the movement. He's always patient and willing to answer my questions. One of the things I like about Dale--he's not like some of the egos in the movement who lust for power and control. He's not a glory hound. He simply wants to help save our country, and I believe with his activism and leadership, we can.
Best Wishes,
