Position Summary: The Youth and Conflict Specialist would be part of
the management team of a multi-year conflict mitigation and religious
tolerance program in Nigeria. The project will start mid-2011 and
seeks to achieve a broader collaboration between government, religious
figures and civil society and reduce sources of religious and communal
tension and violence. The position would be responsible for building
the capacity of youth-led community based organizations (CBOs) through
training and small grants, supporting promising youth leaders, and
creating collaborative networks among and between youth communities
that bridge religious and political divides. This position is
contingent on funding.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure high-quality programming for youth through technical guidance
and support that is
grounded in the program’s strategic objectives and adheres to best
practices in youth empowerment and conflict mitigation;
• Contribute to the implementation of the program’s training,
technical assistance, and grant-making activities as they relate to
youth;
• Planning responsibilities, including assisting the Chief of Party
(COP) in the production of annual workplans, operating budgets, etc.;
• Build strong working relationships with relevant government entities
and youth-focused CBOs;
• Ensure attention to youth, gender and social exclusion issues in all
aspects of the program.

Qualifications:
• A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the
ability to work with youth in a challenging environment;
• Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks;
• Excellent grasp of conflict triggers in Nigeria;
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and database skills;
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Master’s degree in conflict resolution or related field;
• 5-10 years (of which 3 in a leadership position) progressive
experience in activities related to conflict resolution,
reconciliation and/or youth in a conflict-affected environment;
• Prior knowledge of and experience working in conflict resolution or
peace building in Nigeria or similar environment;
• Demonstrated experience in working with local youth-led
organizations;
• Extensive knowledge of the current political, social and economic
landscape in Nigeria.
