One of our newest intakes - estimated to be just barely a year old, comes to the shelter as a stray
Upon arrival it was very obvious he sustained an injury to his hind leg and there was a noticeable area that was actively oozing and smelled of infection.
Once sedated and shaved our Veterinary team located a very large laceration that has since been treated. While under sedation they also preformed radiographs and discovered he has a complete fracture of the right femoral neck and also a fracture present in the sternum

We are seeking immediate placement as this cat we are calling "Melman" will need more medical care than what we can provide within the shelter.
INFO: ID#: 59269974, 1 year old DSH, unaltered male, 5.2lbs, combo negative.
MEDICAL: 09/03 - P came into the shelter with a wound on his right hip region. P was very scared and I was unable to examine thoroughly. Zorbium was applied this morning. This afternoon P was able to be handled better but still needed sedation in order to examine the wound. On brief exam prior to sedation P had pale mm and a grade 1/6 heart murmur. Low dose Telazol was given IM. When the scab over the right hip was removed there was a large skin laceration present. The wound was clipped and flushed with sterile saline. The edges were freshened with metzenbaum scissors and skin edges were apposed using 3/0 PDO in a simple interrupted pattern. Meloxicam 5mg/ml- 0.14cc SQ. Vitamin B12 1000mcg/ml- 0.5ml SQ. Lixotinic- 1ml PO SID x 30 days. CBC: Severe regenerative anemia, leukocytosis, neutrophilia, monocytosis, thrombocytosis. Chemistry: decreased creatinine. Idexx Feline Triple Test: all negative. Radiographs revealed a complete fracture of the right femoral neck; also a fracture present in the sternum. There is a small mineralized opacity present within the stomach. Unremarkable recovery- sutures need to be removed in 10-14 days. Recommend feeding a/d and monitoring appetite closely. Recheck CBC in 1 week.
SUMMARY: P is not a candidate for surgery at this time due to his severe anemia. He will need some supportive care for several weeks. I am hoping the sternum fracture will heal with time and rest, but he will likely need a femoral head ostectomy.
