Subject: Time-sensitive: Rescue Suit by 9/11!!! - Baltimore, MD

- Rescue Needed - Suit: altered male, 5y11d, 12.9lbs ⏰ SUIT MUST HAVE PLACEMENT BY 9/11 AT 6 PM. Suit was abandoned at BARCS on 8/26 with a large wound on the right side of his neck. His initial exam was very limited, but the following day staff were able to complete most of an exam while he remained in his kennel. At that time, the wound measured approximately 4" x 3" and extended along the right lateral and ventral aspect of his neck.   Suit was neutered, and his neck was bandaged afterward to protect the healing wound and prevent him from scratching at it. The bandage was made with Telfa pads, cast padding, stretch gauze, and VetWrap, with instructions to monitor for scratching and place an e-collar if he attempted to scratch or damage the bandage.   Approximately a week later, the bandage was removed, and unfortunately, the wound appeared larger than it had at the time of surgery. A moist granulation bed was present along with yellow exudate. Ideally, Suit would have a tie-over bandage placed and have the wound tended to 2–3 times a week for many weeks. This level of ongoing wound care is not possible with the shelter's current resources. He is also unlikely to tolerate twice-daily application.   Suit's tolerance for medical handling has not been the best, which makes the intensive wound care he needs especially challenging in the shelter environment. However, he has shown that he is not completely shut down. He has allowed pets on his head and back and permitted staff to touch his paws and tail. When his tail was touched, he quickly turned to look at the hand, seemingly out of curiosity rather than aggression. His wound was not intentionally touched during the exam, but while Suit was leaning into pets, a hand came within about a half inch of the edge of the wound and he did not seem bothered.   When offered a Churu, Suit happily ate it before returning to lie on the litter-box side of his kennel.   Suit needs a rescue willing and able to take on his ongoing wound care and give him the time and patience he needs.
