Some things to remember:
· We do NOT guarantee health, behavior, or temperament, nor do we have the resources for extensive testing or exams on any animals prior to rescue pulls. The only guaranteed vetting is vaccines (da2pp, rabies, bordetella), deworming, preventatives, and HW test.
Ø Dog assessments upon request for rescues, we assess with dogs of the same general size, we generally do not know how dogs are with smaller dogs.
· Reminders: Any questions, requests for information, or commitments should be directed to me, rather than to volunteers. In the past, we’ve encountered issues with miscommunication and mistakes when volunteers were used as go-betweens, and I’d like to avoid that moving forward. Volunteers are more than welcome to share photos, videos, or other content, but when it comes to relaying information or confirming details, please make sure it goes through me directly. This will help streamline communication and ensure everything is accurate. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
· CAS does not DNA test shelter pets and is therefore unable to determine the breed of promoted animals. We believe all dogs are individuals and their behaviors should not be predicted based on physical characteristics. *Fun fact! less than 25% of a dog's genome contributes to their physical characterizes.
· No Rescue Pull Fees (Health certificates still charged.)
· We do not provide transport (we can try and ask volunteers but no guarantees)
· Why we do not cat test dogs:
From the ASV Guidelines, Page 46
“Over the past two decades, studies have shown that behavior evaluation tests fail to reliably predict future behavior, particularly aggression, in a new home. Performing one stressful subtest after the next can negatively impact test results and the animal’s emotional well-being. For example, it is unacceptable to expose cats to dogs in the shelter as a test to determine if the dog can safely live with cats because this poses a significant risk of emotional and physical harm to cats. Formal testing requires considerable time and resources and can increase individual and population length of stay (LOS). For these reasons, requiring all shelter animals to go through a formal behavior evaluation test is no longer recommended.”
