Urgent Vet, was stray found in their parking lot, Urgent Vet performed initial diagnostics and care and then transferred to UVS for care over weekend.Found in the parking lot difficulty walking. They are presuming someone dumped the puppy.  

 

Tony presented to the shelter with evidence of a previous injury to his back left limb. Initially it was suspected that it was a soft tissue injury, however, Tony was more painful and lame than expected. We took additional radiographs, but Tony was too wiggly to fully assess them. We cannot rule out a small fracture. We administered additional pain medications and will continue to monitor his lameness. Until more evaluation and monitoring can be done we recommend 2-4 weeks of cage rest. We are recommending sedated radiographs for full evaluation. We cannot fully rule out fractures or luxations at this time. We will not be able to provide future recommendations until further assessments are done. Adopters need to be prepared that Tony may require continued cage rest or additional interventions in the future.

9/16: On repeat, sedated x-rays we are suspicious of a small fracture of the left femoral head, but it is difficult to see in every view. Tony appears to be improving overall with his medical management. At this time we recommend keeping Tony on strict cage rest for 4-6 weeks to allow healing of the bone. We suspect that with rest and time this will heal, however, we cannot fully anticipate how this may change Tony's gait or susceptibility to arthritis has he continues to grow. We recommend repeating x-rays in 4-6 weeks to evaluate his healing process.
