Subject: Gastonia, NC: UPDATE: 2 have been extended - Valor and German Shepherd - 2 were euthanized to day - Jasmie and Rosalie

FROM THE SHELTER UPDATE:  Rosalie and Jasmine have been euthanized.

******Valor and the German Shepherd ID#: 59842322 will be extended but will need commitment by Saturday 11/29 at 8am to avoid being euthanized.

URGENT MEDICAL CASES!

   1) "VALOR," a 2 year old dog was found with burns wounds to his muzzle * - he is a kind dog with great courage!  Please save him!  He needs love for the rest of his life.

VALOR - has Foster offer but still needs RESCUE backing!

This week has been emergency after emergency, back to back We are calling this boy "Valor" meaning great courage He comes to us as a stray with a degloving injury to his chin and what appears to be burn wounds to his muzzle. We can only hope this wasn't intentionally done to him

He has suffered so much but still manages to wag his tail for our Veterinary team. He's extremely tolerant as if he knows we are here to help him. Valor is currently at an off-site Veterinary clinic receiving additional treatment today, but he will need immediate rescue placement upon his return to the shelter so he can receive continued treatment and begin to recover. Valor's story shouldn't end here

Dog test: Currently on stray hold and unable to interact with other animals but is non-reactive in passing other dogs. Kennels well, no indicators of fence fighting with neighboring dogs.

Medical: 11/23 - Presenting to UrgentVet for multiple injuries, facial edema, RF leg lacerations/edema. Upon presentation patient is depressed but wagging tail and cooperative.

Behavioral: Very nice dog. Chin degloved, old wound, infected and odiferous. Both nares and muzzle ulcerated. Nasal planum scarred down. No obvious jaw fracture on palpation. Enlarged submandibular. Able to drink water. Lame right front 2/4. Lacerations to right anterior foreleg, possible posterior surface as well. LF leg diffuse cellulitis. Recommendations:

SQ LRS - 1 Liter. Wound cleaning/repair. Monitor temp. Rx: Clavamox 375 mg PO BID X 14 days; Carprofen 50 mg PO BID X 7 days; Gabapentin 300 mg PO BID X 14 days.

This dog was reported as a stray, the finder noted that he was having a seizure. Upon arrival our ACO found him in a very unfocused stare, he was excessively panting, and had difficulty walking. The dog was transported to a local veterinary office where he again had another seizure in the lobby. He is currently being boarded where he is being observed and monitored closely, where Veterinary staff can intervene if he does have another seizure.

We will need immediate rescue placement as his condition is not manageable in the shelter environment In the short time he was at the shelter interacting with staff he was very friendly and well behaved
