Mickey came to BARCS through animal control on 6/13 after he was found running at large with another dog. According to the reporting party, one of the two dogs was involved in the killing of a cat, though it remains unclear which dog was responsible.
Since arriving at the shelter, Mickey has shown signs of orthopedic concerns affecting both of his hind legs. He has an abnormal gait and evidence of chronic changes in his knees, and our veterinary team is recommending an orthopedic examination and sedated radiographs to better understand what is going on. Additional treatment may be needed depending on those findings. Mickey is also currently battling an upper respiratory infection.
During dog interactions, he displayed tense, conflicted behavior and repeatedly involved himself in disagreements between dogs. He can be pushy with other dogs and is not always easy to redirect once aroused. In the kennel environment, he has also shown jumpy, mouthy behavior and can become overly enthusiastic around treats.
Mickey needs a rescue partner willing to provide the behavioral support, decompression, and veterinary follow-up he requires. The shelter environment is not allowing us to fully evaluate or address his orthopedic needs, and a rescue placement would give him the opportunity to receive more individualized care and assessment.
A full medical summary can be provided upon request.
