Boomslang 5 came to BARCS as an animal control violation on 1/29, arriving with 17 other dogs. Despite the rough circumstances she endured, she is a friendly and cooperative girl who has shown nothing but resilience and gentle spirit.
At the shelter, Boomslang 5 has met other dogs and is a calm, polite companion who does best with respectful, gentle friends. During her dog test, she demonstrated appeasing and submissive behaviors, wiggling and hopping on her own and with handlers, moving with a soft gait, avoiding pushy play, and coexisting peacefully. She did not engage in chasing behaviors and followed the lead of gentle dogs around her.
Boomslang 5 has a large waxy, foul-smelling abscess at the base of her lateral ear (likely from a puncture wound) and our vets could not fully visualize her lower ear canal due to the extent of the infection. She also has extensive scarring and multiple puncture wounds across her face, neck, and forelimbs, along with patchy hair loss on her limbs and belly. Her tail shows severe traumatic dermatitis, with nearly the entire tip exposed and several vertebrae missing, likely making her a candidate for tail amputation. Aside from these injuries, she is otherwise healthy. A full medical summary is available upon request.
Boomslang 5 deserves a calm, loving environment where she can heal and receive the medical care she desperately needs.
