Subject: FIV+ Twin Needs Your Support for Recovery!!! - Baltimore, MD
- Rescue Needed -
Twin: unaltered m, 6yo, 7.4lbs
Twin came to BARCS as a stray on 6/28 after a concerned community member brought him in for treatment. According to the finder, Twin had been living in the area for approximately a year and was well-known in the neighborhood. While friendly with people, he reportedly did not get along with other cats and had been sustaining injuries from frequent fights.
Twin is in rough shape and has clearly been struggling to survive outdoors. His tail is completely bald with multiple wounds, and the finder reported that he appeared to be chewing the fur off himself. Most concerning, nearly all of Twin's nails have been avulsed, meaning they have been torn out. It will take several months for them to regrow, and he will need monitoring for pain and possible nail bed infections during the healing process. Because of this injury, Twin should not return to an outdoor lifestyle.
In addition to his nail injuries, Twin's feet are extremely painful. He has multiple abraded foot pads, peeling skin on several pads, and shifts his weight from side to side while standing, frequently lifting his back feet due to discomfort. He also has painful ulcers on his tongue and roof of his mouth. While he is eager to eat and appears very hungry, the pain in his mouth causes him to stop frequently while eating and struggle to continue.
Twin has tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV-positive cats can often live long, happy lives with proper veterinary care and indoor housing, but they are more vulnerable to infections and illness than other cats.
Despite everything he has endured, Twin remains friendly with people and has allowed the care he desperately needs. After spending so long surviving on his own, he deserves the chance to recover in comfort and safety.
Twin needs a rescue partner willing to provide ongoing medical care, pain management, and a safe indoor environment while he heals from his extensive injuries.
Full medical summary can be provided upon request.
