Hi, folks!
No requests yet and one adoption today. However, today brought many surrenders and strays, putting some familiar faces now at risk. 😞 Please check out the below pups-in-need and let us know ASAP if you have a spot!Transport is Thursday, October 8th, 2026.Warmest Wags,

Happy Tails Animal Rescue of Washington County, VALocated: Abingdon, VA
Sweater Weather Puppies - Ten All-American Mutt Mix puppies, 5 males 5 females, 5-6 months, ~25-30lbs each. This varied litter is full of unique puppies that each have their own special flair! They were just surrendered yesterday and some are still feeling understandably anxious, but all are handleable and have been socialized; some are more naturally outgoing than others. They appear overall healthy (they’re pretty chonky) and each received a DHPP vaccination at intake on 9/23. Due to the size of this litter, they can be split among multiple rescues. If any catch your eye, please let us know! 10/6 UPDATE: The puppies have really come out of their shells and are too cute with their playful natures! TWO Puppies remain after local adoptions/rescue transfers - both black/tan pups.
Winnie AT RISK - Lab/Terrier mix, black/tan/white, female, 8-9 months, 35-40lbs. Winnie is an energetic, playful, outgoing, all-around happy girl who approaches every moment with infectious enthusiasm and a big friendly personality to match. She received a DHPP booster at intake on 9/23, does have some vetting history, and appears overall healthy. Winnie came to the shelter as an owner surrender due to a landlord dispute.
Mizuno AT RISK - Pittie mix, black, male, 2-4y, 40-50lbs. Mizuno is a friendly, gentle, low-key fellow with a handsome bearing and genuinely kind eyes that tell you everything you need to know about him. He came in with some dry skin and some suspected flea dermatitis but his coat is already regrowing. Mizuno came to the shelter as a stray.
Jack, Zero, and Sally AT RISK – 3 hound/shepherd mix puppies, black/white and tan, two males one female, 7-8 months old, 25-35lbs each. These three sweeties are the ones that were left behind after all of their littermates were adopted locally. ☹ Each has their own unique personality – Jack and Sally are energetic, super playful, and outgoing. Zero is more timid and submissive, a sweet, gentle pup who looks to humans for reassurance. All three could use some help with leash training. Jack, Zero, and Sally all received DHPP and deworming at intake on 9/4, DHPP booster 9/30, and appear overall healthy. They came to the shelter as strays. Due to their age, these three can be split among rescues and don't have to be transferred together.

Periwinkle - Pittie mix, gray, female, 4-6y, 35-45lbs. Periwinkle is a timid, submissive little girl who is clearly overwhelmed by the shelter environment, watching everything around her with big, careful eyes. But there is zero aggression in this sweet petite girl - just a gentle soul who needs patience and a quiet place to finally feel safe. Peri is significantly underweight and very boney; however, she is eating well at the shelter and making progress on that front. Although she came to the shelter as an owner surrender due to “no time”, her name was listed as “?” by her former owner, so Periwinkle is a name we gave her.
Kilo - Pittie mix, red/white, male, 5-6y, 53lbs. Kilo is a curious, relaxed guy with an easygoing nature that shines through despite everything he's been through recently. Friendly and even a bit goofy! He's currently recovering from a gnarly case of diagnosed flea dermatitis - examined by a vet on 10/2, he's now on Credelio, oral antibiotics (Cephalexin), and Numelvi for associated itchiness, and his coat is already on its way back (additional photos available on request.) This handsome boy is going to be absolutely lovely once he's fully healed. Kilo came to the shelter as an owner surrender following intervention from animal control due to his living situation.
Brisco - Boxer mix, red brindle/white, male, 3-5y, 45-50lbs. Brisco is a friendly, handsome fellow who carries himself with the confident energy of a dog who knows he looks good. Strong and very playful! Could use a little help with leash manners. He could use a dental to address some significant plaque buildup around his rear molars, but otherwise appears overall healthy. Brisco came to the shelter as a stray.
Angel - Pittie mix, black/white, female, 4-5 months, ~20lbs. Angel is a wiggly, friendly, playful little puppy who is very cute about everything. She needs some help with leash manners, as any good puppy does, and has received her first DHPP at intake on 9/30. Angel came to the shelter as an owner surrender.
Bo - JRT mix, black/white, male, 10y+, 20-25lbs. NEUTERED! SENIOR ALERT! SUSPECTED HOUSEBROKEN! Bo had a rough start adjusting to the shelter, but over the last week this sweet little guy has relaxed considerably into the friendly, calm, good-on-the-leash fellow he clearly is at heart. He's a little overweight and has a golf ball-sized soft mass at the base of his stubby tail (additional photos available on request.) This gentle senior boy deserves a soft, quiet place to spend his golden years. Bo came to the shelter as an owner surrender.
