Subject: Rescue Needed for Sweet Fayla By 9/11 At 6PM!! - Baltimore, MD

- Rescue Needed - Fayla: unaltered female, 3yo, 93.2lbs Fayla was owner surrendered to BARCS on 8/28 when her family was moving. Her former owner describes her as housebroken, affectionate, and a girl who loves snuggling and chewing her toys. She reportedly lived with a cat and was gentle with babies and young children.   Fayla has a significant heart murmur that needs further investigation. A loud murmur was heard on both sides of her chest, and her bloodwork indicates that her heart is under significant strain. This, combined with her heart murmur, makes her a high-risk candidate for anesthesia. Because of this, BARCS does not feel it is safe to spay her. She needs a much more thorough heart workup with a veterinary cardiologist to determine what is causing the murmur and how serious her heart condition may be. This level of specialty care is beyond what the shelter can provide for her.   During her dog test, Fayla was too nervous to enter the yard. She backed out with her head low, showed whale eye, and moved away from eye contact, so staff were unable to complete the test. This behavior appears to be related to how overwhelmed and frightened she is in the shelter environment, and her former family describes a very different dog at home.   Fayla also has an injured third toe on her left front paw. The toe has damaged tendons, causing it to be flattened and point forward, and the nail has become long because she is not wearing it down normally. She is also currently battling an upper respiratory infection, which adds another concern and makes anesthesia and medical care even more risky.   Fayla's medical needs are beyond what BARCS can provide.
