Subject: URGENT RESCUE NEEDED: Give Remi a Second Chance at Happiness! - Baltimore, MD
- Rescue Needed -

Remi(Beef) - Altered male, 1yo, 102lbs

⏰Deadline for Placement: February 3rd at 6pm.

Remi (Beef) was taken in by animal control on 1/6 after his owner was involved in a car accident and no longer had a place for him. He has since been living with a dedicated foster and has been adjusting to his new environment.

On 1/18, Remi completed a behavior evaluation and did very well, which allowed him to be listed for adoption. During the evaluation, he met multiple male and female strangers, remained loose and wiggly, and actively solicited attention without displaying any reactivity, passing the assessment with ease.

Since that evaluation, Remi has continued to exhibit some of the behaviors that initially prompted concern. He has shown lunging, barking, and signs of aggression toward people and other dogs while on leash. In the home, he has also become more mouthy, nipping at clothing and exploring hands with his mouth. His foster has been actively discouraging this behavior but is seeking guidance on effective strategies to address it moving forward.

When brought in for his DaPPvL4 booster on 1/27, Remi became highly reactive. Despite the use of a double leash, basket muzzle, and treats, he was unable to calm enough to safely receive the vaccine. Administering it would have required a catch pole, so the attempt was postponed. Additionally, during an attempted introduction to a new person two days ago, Remi displayed significant reactivity, including growling, lunging, pulling, barking, and an inability to settle.

Remi appears under-socialized or uncomfortable around most dogs. He exhibits assertive greetings such as pinning or mounting, fixates on certain dogs, and has difficulty reading corrections. He is often high arousal and mouthy, with strong leash pulling and occasional leash biting when handled. During his first 48 hours in foster care, he had two startle- or proximity-related incidents but showed gradual improvement as he decompressed. While he passed his in-shelter evaluation easily, ongoing selective reactivity has been observed in foster beyond his initial adjustment period.  At this time his behavioral needs exceed what the shelter can safely manage.

Remi appears healthy, and a full medical summary can be provided upon request.

His foster is willing to continue fostering him but will be unavailable from February 13th through February 21st due to travel.

Please let us know if your organization can help!
